Runners from all over Bucks County came out today to show their support for fallen paramedic Daniel McIntosh, a thirteen-year veteran of Bensalem EMS who suffered a major heart attack in March 2010. A 5k run and 1 mile Family Fun Walk was held on 3211 Knights Road Saturday April 16. Registration for the event began at 8:00 a.m with the race beginning an hour later.
Registration for the 5k cost $25 and the Family Fun Walk is $10. According to Bethann McIntosh, widow to the deceased and event coordinator, all of the proceeds will benefit the Daniel McIntosh Memorial Fund and Scholarship. The scholarship, run through Bucks County Community College, is intended to benefit students pursuing a degree in criminal justice.
"There were about 100 people who pre-registered for the run," McIntosh said. "We are expecting a turn out of maybe 125 or 150 people. Last year, there were about 25 runners."
The run itself began at the Historical Society of Bensalem Township and loops through Bensalem, with the runners traveling down Knights Road and Galloway Road, up through Hulmeville to Byberry, then returning to the Historical Society.
The Bensalem Police Department was on the scene to ensure the runners' safety. In a video interview with Bensalem Patch, police officer Jack Gohl stated the goal of the Daniel McIntosh Memorial Fund and Scholarship.
The results from the 5k will be posted on the Bensalem Township Police Department's website and the Active.com site.
