Amtrak Train Halts After Striking Large Bird
Amtrak was delayed for nearly an hour on Saturday near the Cornwells Heights station after striking a large bird.
An Amtrak train was delayed for nearly an hour on Saturday after striking a large bird, an Amtrak official said.
Passengers, including a Patch employee who reached out to Bensalem Patch, speculated that a person had been struck by the train. An investigation proved otherwise.
"At first, they knew they struck an object, but they didn't know what it was," Schulz said of the Amtrak crew. "After an investigation it was determined that it was a large bird."
The delay was necessary in order to investigate what had been struck and to see if any damage was done to the train.
"The train ended up taking a 54 minute delay so the crews could take a look at what happened," Schulz said. "Once they were able to inspect everything, they continued on their way."
Fortunately, Schulz said that no crew members or train passengers were injured. Additionally, the train did not sustain damage, so transportation continued on Saturday.
