Bensalem Patch readers picked Chewbacca as the Top Dog in our photo contest.

Chewbacca –Chewie to her close friends – is a mix of Shar Pei, Cocker Spaniel. Doberman Pincher, Labrador Retriever, Chow, Schnauzer and Greyhound; otherwise known as a purebred Sharcockerman Labrachowzerhound!

Her humans, Virginia and Kevin McKay of Bensalem, adopted her three and a half years ago from Wet Nose Rescue in Southampton when Chewie was just 3 months old.

“Like most shelter dogs, she is a mutt,” says Virginia, “so we purchased a Dog DNA test kit to find out what breeds [she came from].”

She's a fun, energetic dog who's favorite activities include: napping on the couch, chasing birds & squirrels, making noises like the Star Wars Chewbacca, and chewing on stuffed toys.

Voters picked Chewbacca from all the entries, with Angelica providing close competition.

As the winner, Chewbacca now moves on to represent Bensalem in the next round of voting in a regional contest of Bucks and Montgomery County canines.
