Gino's Closes Due to 'Conflicting Interest'

Bensalem lost another restaurant with the closure of Gino's Burgers and Chicken.

Though there is no way of knowing that the restaurant is closed from the sign at the building's entrance that is still advertising a new menu and cheaper prices, one can take the vacant parking lot as a sign. If you get close enough to peer inside a window, you can see that the building, including pictures on the walls, have been cleared out.

Calls to Gino's corporate office in King of Prussia were not returned as of publication time, but a message on the restaurant's Facebook page confirmed that it is indeed closed for business.

"Yes, Bensalem is closed due to conflicting interest," the company wrote on its Facebook page. "It was a difficult company decision. We are focusing on our 6 current locations and look forward to other future openings."

The only actual notice at the restaurant is a handwritten sign stating Gino's is, "Closed due to the weather."

Though it hasn't been confirmed what day the restaurant shut down, Evelyn Ryan Whitehouse said on Bensalem Patch's Facebook that she was there on Saturday, Jan. 26 and they were still open for business. Patch received a news tip on Monday evening that the business was empty.

Residents weren't too shocked by its closure, according to more than 20 comments posted on Bensalem Patch's Facebook page.

"Not surprising, prices are too high! I don't care how fresh it is, I want to eat cheap!!" Mike Ford said.

Another resident, who said she was an employee, added that she thought the restaurant closed because it wasn't doing well financially, and agreed that the prices were high.

Others stated they thought the "food sucked" or that the location wasn't the best. Some said that the burgers weren't the greatest but, Amanda Mc said, "I LOVED their chicken!!"

Gino's first opened in Bensalem in 2011 after being absent for nearly 30 years. This location also featured the first drive-through window for the company. 

President and CEO Tom Romano told Patch back in September 2011 that the restaurant was "an ideal demographic profile" for the company because of its proximity to Parx Casino, and because the stretch of Street Road "has a traffic count by the location which we consider a regional draw which is more than double our standard."
