Good Idea/Bad Idea? Presidential Tears
Are you surprised at my tears, sir? Strong men also cry.
A video of President Barack Obama thanking his campaign staff went viral on Friday. The reason? It featured the reelected president welling up as he reminisced about his humble beginnings in Chicago.
After a long, hard-fought campaign — undoubtedly the president's last — it's hard to begrudge the man a few wistful tears.
But not everybody thinks Obama is genuine, even in this YouTube video of an unguarded moment in front of close-knit young staffers.
We've had a lot of viral moments in this campaign, and as it closes, this one might be the most surprising.
So we put it to you: what do you think of the president's tears?

Maybe he was thinking about the murdered Marines in Benghazi? The ones whose calls for help were ignored...

Four Americans died in the Benghazi attacks. An ambassador, an foreign service Information Management Officer, and two contractors.
Who are the "murdered marines" you mention?

CyD252,
Just two contractors? They were ex- Navy seals. Not sure where you are trying to go with your comment here, but several media outlets had reported them to be "former marines" - Sounds like you don't like Mike's message... So who is worse, Mike for refering to ex-Navy Seals as Marines, or you for reffering to them only as contractors?
If you don't like his message, then why not just say so? Instead, you try and split hairs and then go on to refer to two bad ass ex-Navy Seals as only "contractors."

Agreed, it's time to move on and bring this country together. We've had four years of obstructionist politics. I'm not sure what the purpose is here, your choices are restricted and one sided. Time to move on...

How come the choices are only
bad and don't know?
How do you vote for 'it's ok for men to cry?"

A bigger deal is made about this then it should be. Who cares! He was speaking to his staff, and he got emotional. I am thankful to see a man show his emotion. Exhaustion certainly makes us more emotional - carry on PATCH with news of what is going on around UM and WG.

Ask former candidate Muskie about crying in politics, how did it work out for him?

G. Couch: How about more recently? Ask the current Speaker of the House about his tears? To Obama; Instead of weeping false tears for your campaign workers, how about actual tears for all those service men and women you continue to send into harms way, who are protecting you and the Nation as I write this comment? I would like to say Happy Veteran's Day and thank you for your service, but, OH, you, never served! Get a grip!

James K: The claim was that "marines were murdered in Benghazi," while their "calls for help were ignored." The truth is that neither one was ever a U.S. Marine, and neither one was operating in a military capacity at the time. This doesn't make their deaths any less a tragedy - and as such, there's no need for anyone to misrepresent them.
Robert Applegarth: You're correct; our Commander in Chief never served in the military. And you know what? You'd better get used to it. The primary reason that we had a succession of presidents with military experience was because a draft was in effect. President Obama - like everyone else born at that time, was much too young to be subject to the draft.
As such, we can expect to see fewer and fewer presidential candidates with military experience.

He wasn't too young to volunteer! His good buddy slick willie Clinton didn't serve either. he got deferments instead. If you served, thank you for your service.
Hope you had a good Veteran's Day.

Big deal... Ronald Reagan didn't really serve either. Oh, yeah, he wore the uniform, but he made damned sure that during one of our country's greatest conflicts, he never set foot anywhere more remote than Burbank California .
I also recall that Woodrow Wilson, who steered our nation through World War I, also had no military experience.
But my point stands... Over the next dozen election cycles, you will see fewer and fewer candidates with military experience, and those of age while the draft was in effect start getting old and dying off. Did it escape your notice that during this past presidential cycle, not only did NEITHER candidate have any military experience, but (please double-check this; I didn't) none of the Republican candidates had any military experience.

When republicans love the usa more then they hate people who disagree with them politicaly perhaps then they elected republicans will do the job of governing this country instead of trying to prevent it.

Didn't really understand the poll, read good idea or bad idea. It's a fact of life, caring people do shed tears when feeling touched
