If you were shopping at ShopRite this morning, you might have had your bags packed by the mayor.
Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and members of his staff – Dawn Davis and Barbara Barnes – were bagging groceries as part of ShopRite’s Partners In Caring effort.
In a release, ShopRite described the program:
With nearly 50 million Americans, including more than 16 million children, suffering from food insecurity, ShopRite Partners In Caring, a year-round, community based hunger-fighting charity, is helping to raise awareness and inspire action within their local communities through hunger-fighting initiatives. Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $29 million to local food banks that support more than 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast.
According to the release, Gov. Tom Corbett declared Sept. 19 as an Official Day to Help Fight Hunger.
The township's Around Town Bensalem video of the event is now live as a video blog on Bensalem Patch.
