myexpressoil.com Delivers After Customers Log On

Begun in 2009, the online heating oil company says it can save customers money

You may not realize this but the home-heating business is now a part of the World Wide Web.

And the folks at myexpressoil.com in Bensalem think they do it best.

Company spokesman and consultant Ron Musser has worked in the heating oil business his whole life and owns Energy Concepts Inc., a more traditional heating and air conditioning firm also in Bensalem.

“My son and brother wanted to use new technology and avoid all the hurdles and obstacles of a COD discount oil company," he said. "With today's technology, such as GPS routing programs and online payments, it made a lot sense. It cut overhead drastically. There’s no phone calls, no dispatching and pass on the savings.”

Customers of myexpressoil.com sign up and pay through the company’s website.

“Drivers don’t have to worry about picking up money,” Musser said.

The company’s price on its website Monday was $3.50 per gallon. Its proportional pricing system drops that price to $3.20 after the first 100 gallons on each delivery. Most other companies, Musser said, start their discounts at 150 gallons.

“What about folks who get 140 gallons? We wanted to eliminate that stress," he said.

Unlike other businesses, the recession has helped myexpressoil.com, as residents turned more to comparing prices, according to Musser.

“A lot of customers were leaving ECI,” he acknowledged.

The online venture started in 2009. It now has between 400 and 500 customers, Musser said. Its tanker trucks go as far as central Bucks County and northeast Philadelphia.

Another way the company saves money is cluster delivery – waiting for several orders in the same area before delivering. That usually takes a day or two, according to Musser. But myexpressoil.com also provides same-day service when needed.

“The other way is inefficient, jumping from one delivery spot to another,” Musser said.

The company also is involved in the community. For instance, drivers are now collecting coats from customers for United Way. They also can be dropped off at the company’s office at 2136 Bristol Pike.
