Who Should Get Our GOP Presidential Nod?

Forget about who WILL win, which GOP presidential hopeful SHOULD win the Pennsylvania primary?

The GOP presidential primary race seems to have been going on forever, but it's finally nearing its conclusion. Pennsylvania voters finally get their say on April 24.

There's no shortage of polls out there. Gallup has plenty of information, including projecting head-to-head races with President Obama, and USA Today, which has a cool graphic that lets you see the nationwide picture as well as individual states.

But that's all about who might win. We think the bigger question is, who should win. So cast a ballot in our poll and, more importantly, leave a comment to tell us who Pennsylvanians should support in the GOP primary.

We'll close our poll April 23 at midnight.

Oh, and if you need information about the election, check out Pennsylvania's Department of State Web site.

"less than desirable"? So you really don't know what Ron Paul stands for...
Just do not expect to learn the truth from mainstream tv!

Ron Paul is the only candidate who would really DO something about the massively overgrown Federal government and the debt that is bankrupting this country. Why doesn't the Republican leadership want him? Because they don't own him. Big government is the key to their own power and influence. It is what they live for. The voters MUST take control of this before it is too late. The ONLY way to do that is to vote for Ron Paul.

When you hear an average citizen state their political opinion and someone says you are allowed freedom of speech, but over all your word doesn't matter too much because the decisions come down to the powerful and influential who make the laws in favor for their buddies, and your idea has to be in agreement with the select few, whether it is good or bad for the over all country they just are about their pockets. Money talks and big buisness found a way to control politics.I think our last two presidents look professional on their job, but don't really have as much passion or care about the importance of their position. They probably want to get on the throne to profit with their biggest endorsers.

Ron Paul is the man and Mitt Romney fits the celebrity type of image sort of like a ken doll. People choose style over substance which is really sad!

There is NO attraction about Romney! He is just pushed by the media and some people just want to be obedient... Some people vote for him even when they do not like him! Just because media say so!

For purposes of the poll I'll pick Santorum for the fact that maybe he'd steer some good stuff PA's way if elected.

Mike L: I think this is just a commentary and vote based upon what's currently going on in the Republican party (Santorum telling Newt that he needed to conceed, but he himself not knowing when to "hold 'em or fold 'em"). I don't think that it shows that the article's author is Republican or Democrat.
I think that the best thing for everyone would be if voters really educated themselves before this election and didn't vote en masse for "a black man", "the Republican" "the Democrat" or "the guy who's going to save the world". Our country is really in trouble, and I think the only way we get out is by the people speaking out more--via the proper channels, like contacting your legislator, not by attacking Wall Street--most of the people working hard in those buildings are also in "the 99%"--and actually making informed choices on election day.

People seem to forget that it took 8 yrs of Bush to get our country in the financial mess that it is in and everyone expects Obama to get us out of it in 4yrs. It doesn't help that the Republicans fight him on every little detail and are not willing to work with him. Romney will only help the rich, Santorum is a threat to all women, Newt is just a time bomb waiting to explode and I agree with Robert about Ron Paul. He seems to be a good guy but Republicans won't give him a chance. My vote will go for Obama again.

Yes, we all get that the financial crises was "Bush's fault", as if he were the one pushing for greater access for prospective home buyers to mortgage loans (i.e. Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, etc.) that led to lower lending standards and the mortgage feeding frenzy.

I just wish President Obama hadn't made the whole mess even worse with an amazing lack of economic leadership.

Hey Mike - the real estate and financial crisis was NOT caused efforts from Democrats to allow greater access to mortgage financing -- it was due to fraud by the financial industry which was made much easier via deregulation.

You need facts to make a valid point, not excuses that allow you to avoid responsibility for those you helped elect.

Nick: You can stick to the Democrat's view of how it happened, but Frank himself has admitted his own "mistake" which he tried to correct in 2007. I stand by my comment that the Liberal effort to reduce standards for mortgages - hence the term sub-prime - led to the feeding frenzy that did inlcude unscrupulous lending practices.

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/12/hey-barney-frank-the-government-did-cause-the-housing-crisis/249903/

From the article:
"For most of his career, Barney Frank was the principal advocate in Congress for using the government's authority to force lower underwriting standards in the business of housing finance."

Frank was one of the chickens that laid the egg.

Ron Paul is the only consistent candidate on his ideals and policies. People say he is "crazy" uncle Ron because his ideas aren't the norm, but if you read his policies online or watch highlights of his debates you'll see he makes sense and has solutions for the questions asked to him while all of the other candidates avoid the question. As the phrase goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well current politics is broke. Why not try Ron out and see if he can fix it

Ron Paul's domestic policies always made sense to me. But his view on America's place in the world would have us back in early 1800s, and that never made sense to me.

The Republican primary in PA is a non-issue. The contest is essentially over. Expect a record low turnout.
Sadly the best either party may have to offer along the lines of intelligent leadership and true statesmanship either (a) can't hold up under extremist views and party politics that mark the modern era of campaigning, or (b) isn't remotely interested in subjecting themselves and their family to a PAC and Super-PAC post Citizen's United world. Blitzkrieg ads run by such groups, at saturation levels, are entirely negative toward "the other guy". Nothing constructive. PAC's and political parties (R's & D's) have already bought up or put a hold on 100% of the television spot inventory Sept. through early Nov. Get your DVR cleaned off if you plan on watching any TV during this period.
Choices among those comprising this Presidential election cycle will range from bad to worse, and I think it will be reflected in a lower November turnout by an even more disillusioned electorate than we saw in 2008.

I always liked Santorum. But nationally he's his own worst enenmy.

Does THAT sound like a "middle class guy" to anyone here?!?

I chose Ron Paul even though I am not comfortable with his attitude towards Isreal. He is not a Washingtonian and has solid economic positions. Being a realist though I will end up voting for Mitt in November. He is more conservative then people give him credit for being and he has been very successful in everything he has operated. My only fear is that he will be another Bush who allowed the libs in Congress to lay the framework of our current economic condition. They can not be trusted and should be treated as they treat all others.

If this was an open election I'd be tempted to select Rick Santorum. Not that I like him or agree with any of his ideas...but more for the "spoiler" role he plays. Every moment that he and Newt and Paul stay in the race it makes it harder and harder to Romney to take on Obama. So I love the fact that the GOP is doing more harm to itself the longer that some of the candidates stay in the race and refuse to accept defeat. Santorum and Gingrich (especially) are running strictly on Ego at the moment. I love it!

Are there any doubts who is the best candidate for American people? Who connects with people (so not Romney), doesn't want to push women into XVIII century (so not Santorum) and has ego smaller than van (not Gingrich)? And doesn't spend OUR money like aa drunk sailor.(so not Obama).?

It's too bad that Santorum bowed out. Not that he was a better choice than all the others, but it would have been good to have the PA primary mean something. Has our primary ever meant ANYTHING in the presidential landscape? Not that I remember. Santorum may have pulled out our primary and gotten some momentum. Instead we are left with Romney, which means we are left with Obama. I hope Santorum got something good in th bargain. If Christie is tapped as VP, Romney might have a chance. He needs a name that garners respect, not soemone who makes you yawn and ask "Who's That?"

Completely agree with the VP comment for Romney, but I think It'd be more in his favor to select Marco Rubio. He's in a swing state with a large Latino population that is going to vote for Obama, and Florida is one of the states that will make or break the election this year.

GOP finally selected the right candidate, but also the candidate who has the fewest amount of debate skills. I'll vote Obama, but I'm beyond excited to see what happens in November
