New Haven, Conn. - The Holy Family University softball team has been selected to finish eighth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this season as voted by the conference’s 14 head coaches in the annual CACC Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Holy Family received 107 points in this year’s poll and is slated to finish eighth this season for the final postseason spot. The top eight teams in the final regular season conference standings advance to the CACC Tournament at the end of April.
“We try not to pay too much attention to preseason polls or predictions and are instead staying focused on working our process - one day, one pitch, one inning, and one game at a time,” said third year head coach Davon Ortega. “We know that if we stay focused on the little things, our long-term goals will be accomplished. Being selected to finish eighth provides us with an opportunity to surprise a lot of people and adds more fuel to our motivational fire to take our program to a higher level.”
Dominican College, the three-time CACC Conference champions, earned ten first-place votes and 190 points as the Chargers are favored to win this year’s Regular Season Title. Caldwell College finished second in the poll after receiving three first-place votes and 184 points, while Wilmington University finished third with 158 points. The Wildcats also received a first place vote.
Georgian Court University (147) and Bloomfield College (133) round out the top-five in the poll. Post University (128), Felician College (113) and Holy Family complete the top-eight teams who are predicted to make this year’s tournament.
After Holy Family, the poll wraps up with the following with the University of the Sciences (9th - 83), Philadelphia University (10th - 70), Goldey-Beacom College (11th - 55), Concordia College (12th - 53), Nyack College (13th - 31) and Chestnut Hill College (14th - 18).
Holy Family will begin the 2013 season with its annual Florida trip, as the Tigers will compete at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee. The team will compete in ten non-conference games during the six-day stretch beginning on March 3 and concluding March 8.
