Today at 9:45 a.m. Bensalem fire and police responded to an apartment fire at Wood River Village retirement community on Bensalem Boulevard. According to police, the fire was located in apartment F-111. Three employees and the 79-year-old resident were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burns. Battalion Chief Rob Sponheimer reports the fire appears to have started in the heating unit and spread into the walls. Fire is still under investigation. Bensalem police are confirming the death of two individuals in a house fire in the 2900 block of Marion Avenue in Bensalem. According to police, passerby reported the fire around 3 a.m. Eddington Fire Company, who had a crew stationed overnight, was able to respond within minutes along with other rescue personnel. Firefighters entered the home and located two people lying on the floor. The victims were taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital, but later died. We know Hurricane Sandy brought lots of rain and wind with plenty of downed trees and power lines to the area but how will it impact Halloween in Bensalem? All of these problems may make trick-or-treating, well, tricky, but the township is not cancelling Halloween, according to BTPD Sgt. Bensalem is still experiencing a large amount of damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy, a police release stated. While there was no reported flooding, there was a substantial amount of residents and businesses with no power and streets with no traffic lights. “Debris, wires and fallen trees on roadways are a concern,” Sgt.
