Savings, Discount and Deals … Oh My!

If you’ve successfully maintained your New Year’s resolutions to this point, you’re ahead of the game. According to Days of the Year, January 17 is the most common day to abandon resolutions, so much so that it’s been dubbed “Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day.”

Regardless of where you stand on the topic of resolutions, saving money is something we can all strive to do year-round. As I mentioned in my last article, more than half of Americans resolved to save more money and improve their overall financial habits in the New Year. So, today, I thought it would be fun to tell you about some great places to look for deals in 2014 to keep you on your money-saving path.

Online Deals and Bargains Kiplinger, Lifehacker and Mashable recently published their top sites and apps that you can use to find deals and bargains.

· Slick Deals, a largely community powered, user-driven deal-sharing site features a few deals a day on its home page and members float coupon codes and sales available at retailers all over the web in the forums for people to see and use.

· Coupon Cabin  is a one-stop-shop for coupon codes. The staff works with merchant partners to find savings at many of the stores you love.

Cheaper Products and Services in 2014

Since insurance is my area of expertise, I’d be remiss in not pointing out the savings you might find if you look. Companies like Mercury Insurance offer discounts on auto insurance to help keep money in customers’ pockets. Some discounts for which you may qualify as a Pennsylvania driver include good driver, anti-theft, auto pay, pay in full, multi-car and multi-policy, as well as many others that may be unique to our state. Mercury offers all of these and more, which could end up saving you hundreds of dollars on your auto insurance policy. It’s definitely worth a few minutes of your time to speak with a local agent to see if could save some of your hard earned cash.

Other products that will be cheaper in 2014, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Christian Science Monitor and Daily Finance include used cars, off-contract cell phones, touch screen laptops and tablets, and gaming systems.

Make Your Credit Work for You

My Bank Tracker has compiled a list of the best credit card and bank deals offering cash back and bonuses, including receiving up to $200 for opening an account. Some deals require setting up direct deposit or making purchases and payments on the new account. You’ll want to cash in on these deals quickly – some will expire without notice.

Resolve, ingenuity and a reliable Internet connection will help you discover even more ways to save in 2014. Happy wheeling and dealing.
