School Lane Charter Becomes Bucks County's First Public International Baccalaureate World School

School Lane Charter School (SLCS) is the first public school in Bucks County and one of only seven schools in Pennsylvania to earn the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School designation for its Middle Years Program.

Since the 2012-2013 school year SLCS has been using the IB Middle Years Program, which emphasizes inquiry-based learning rooted in international education and rigorous assessment. The school’s 2013 application for authorization started a lengthy review period during which IB World representatives visited SLCS to observe classes, evaluate curriculum plans and interview students and teachers.

This designation places SLCS in an IB network of 1,500 schools in the United States and 3,500 schools globally. These schools have a reputation for high academic standards, preparing students with life skills for a globalized world and developing young people into active, knowledgeable and caring members of a global society.

“We have seen much success in using the IB programs,” said SLCS Principal/CEO Karen Schade.  “Working with the organization as an authorized school will provide additional resources for our faculty, staff and students.”

SLCS is currently seeking authorization for an IB Diploma Program for grades 11 and 12. School Lane Charter High School will welcome its inaugural class of ninth graders in August of 2014.
