School Lane Charter School Students Raise Over $3K for Cancer Patients
On Wednesday, School Lane Charter School (SLCS) students donated the $3,367.94 they collected for the Leukemia & Lymphomas Society’s Pennies for Patients Program over a one-week period.
Students emptied their piggy banks and dug through their sofas to gather the $3,367.94, which will go towards a program to fund cancer research and ensure that families affected by cancer are comfortable during treatment.
This is the 13th year the school participated in Pennies for Patients program, and in total students raised over $30,000. SLCS students participate in a number of philanthropic endeavors throughout the year.
“Our school has a deep commitment to giving back to the community,” said Dianne Krause, a third grade learning support teacher at SLCS who helped to coordinate the fundraiser.
