Bensalem Community Helps Needy During Holidays

Holiday Heart of a Community effort is collecting clothes, food, toys and gifts for those in need.

Bensalem Township, local civic groups and businesses are partnering in a special program aimed at helping less fortunate members of the community.

“The current economy is difficult for us all, but imagine just how hopeless it may seem to others,” a township release asks.

To help with that situation, the township public safety department and school district along with the Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions clubs and Building a Better Bensalem Together have rejoined for another Holiday Heart of a Community program.

They will be set up at the Neshaminy Mall near the food court where they will accept donations of gently worn coats, boots, scarves and gloves as well as food, toys or gift cards.

There will be fun family events involving pictures with holiday characters, police motorcycles, fire departments and more.

Visitors can have fun and help at the same time, a release stated.

Last year, Public Safety Director Fred Harran noted that this Holiday Heart of a Community effort brings the various charitable and civic groups together to help those in need during the holidays.

The effort kicked off on Black Friday and continues through on weekends through Dec. 16.

Here’s the dates and times you can visit the display:

  • Friday, Nov. 30 from 6-9 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 1 from noon to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 2 from noon to 6 p.m.
