Snacks by the Lb., located in the New York Plaza at 1363 Bridgetown Pike, has been offering a wide selection of candies, chocolates, jellybeans, nuts, snack mixes and cookies, both in regular and sugar free for the past 14 years.

Customers can fill up those cardboard Chinese takeout containers with their favorite treats or order a big box full of snacks.

Bensalem Patch took the grand tour with Judy Fiume who owns the store with her daughter and son-in-law Tracey and Larry Lainken.

In addition to the by-the-pound snacks, Judy pointed out the artistic and creative work that Tracey does with chocolate.

“These are some of Tracey’s chocolate candy cupcakes,” the proud mother said pointing out her daughter’s handiwork. “These are unique to our store, nobody else does these around here.”

They did look delicious. Can you think of anything better than giant cupcake-shaped chocolate specialty items filled with more goodies such as mini white chocolate pretzels?

The store also has a wide selection of hard-to-find nostalgia or retro candy such as Bomono’s Turkish Taffy, candy cigarettes and candy buttons on paper tape.

“When people first found out we carried the Turkish Taffy, we were busy for weeks,” Judy said.

In addition to being a fully stocked candy store, Snacks by the Lb. also has an entire gift shop within its walls.

The store carries gift cards for all occasions, picture frames and statues as well as themed gifts for baby showers, over-the-hill birthdays, sports and holidays.

“We even carry handmade glass jewelry,” Judy said. “Tracey studied jewelry design in Europe and makes these herself.”

Judy said the shop also specializes in gift packages for any occasion.

“You can pre-order one for an event or stop by on your way,” she said. “We have several pre-made packages for last-minute occasions.”

Because it has such a wide selection of specialty candy and gift items, Snacks by the Lb. can build specialty packages for any event or any budget.

“We’ve made gifts for small occasions but have also designed packages for large offices and famous customers such as the governor’s office, the Philadelphia 76ers and the production crew on the movie "Signs" when it filmed in Bensalem,” Judy said.
