Route 1 North Ramp to 213 Closed Friday Night for Construction

Construction crews will be working on an overhead bridge beginning Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Nighttime traffic restrictions are scheduled on U.S. Route 1 and Route 213 in Middletown Township on Friday for overhead bridge construction as the year-long, $15.8 million federally-funded project gets underway.

The work schedule is:

• Intermittent traffic stoppages are scheduled on Route 213 between North Flowers Mill Road and South Flowers Mills Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for overhead bridge construction;
• The northbound Route 1 ramp to Route 213 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for ramp reconstruction. Traffic will be detoured over Business Route 1 North, Interstate 95 North, and Route 1 South; and
• The right lane will be closed on Route 1 between South Bellevue Avenue and I-95 Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for overhead bridge construction.

PennDOT is replacing the three-span, pre-stressed box beam bridge over Route 213 with a new single-span, pre-stressed concrete beam structure. Crews are also rebuilding and realigning the Route 1 ramps to Route 213; resurfacing the roadway approaches and ramps; installing glare screens on the median barrier; erecting overhead sign structures; installing new signs, pavement markers and guide rail; and upgrading drainage systems.

The speed limit on Route 1 is reduced from 55 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour in the construction zone.

J.D. Eckman of Atglen is the general contractor on the $15,817,676 project that is funded with 100 percent federal funds. The project is expected to finish in October 2014.
