Storm Makes This 2nd Snowiest Winter Ever

This was the most snow we've ever had on St. Patrick's Day.

The snow we’ve had this winter continues to be record-breaking.

The overnight storm’s official snow total at Philadelphia International Airport — 4.5 inches — officially makes this the snowiest St. Paddy’s Day in the city’s history. The previous holiday record-holder was was back in 1892, when 3.5 inches fell, CBS reported.

And that storm total added to the snow that’s already fallen this winter brings the region’s snowfall total to 67.4 inches of the white stuff, making it the second-snowiest winter in history. Or at least since we started keeping track of this kind of thing.

The worst winter was 2009-2010, when a total of 78.7 inches of snow fell, ABC reported. The previous second-worst winter was 1995-1996, when 65.5 inches of snow fell.

The snow wasn’t as heavy in the northern parts of the region — areas of Bucks County received less than an inch of snow, and the snowfall was insignificant enough in the Lehigh Valley that the National Weather Service didn’t record any official snowfall amounts.
