Stealin' the Covers Band to Play Kenny's

The Bensalem-based cover band will play at Kenny's in Southampton on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Now that its first show is old news, Bensalem's Stealin' the Covers is prepping for its next gig at Kenny's Spirited Eatery in Southampton.

The first show, which took place in New Hope during the day, wasn't the typical night-time crowd that some of the members were used to, according to singer Donna Davis. However, she said the show still went really well and was a chance for the band to start and find its live performance groove.

"It was the first gig I had in six years," Davis said. "So I kinda had to get the cobwebs out."

All of the members have prior experience in bands, according to singer and rhythm guitarist Vic Monaco. For example, John Daly, who plays lead guitar and sings, has toured with Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys and has played with members of the Doobie Brother and the Eagles. Pat Robinson, who's on keys, won a Grammy for being the co-producer of 2012's Best Children's Album.  Monaco has been playing music since he was 16 and was the lead singer in a Bensalem-based Steely Dan tribute band. And drummer Dan Nace and bassist and vocalist Michael Klakowicz also have been playing for years.

Even though they all have years of experience, doesn't mean they stop practicing. Davis said the group will be practice to perfect songs for what will be their first night show.

"[It will] probably be a few gigs until we get into a regular rhythm," Davis said.

But not much will change for the next show. Davis said they're adding a few more female-led songs for her to sing, but that they still plan on giving the crowd what they ask for.

She said that once Stealin' the Covers gets more comfortable they'll be able to feel out the crowd, see that they are enjoying a certain genre and tailor the rest of the set to that. But for now, they're focusing on rock hits, while throwing in some newer songs too.

"Newer [artists] have this old time flare, so we're definitely listening to more of that stuff. We try everything," she added.

The band is looking forward to playing at Kenny's, as they said they've had good times there in the past.

"Joe the owner of Kenny's has been really good to me," Monaco said. "The place is my favorite venue. It has its own stage and own sound system."

Furthermore, he said there's always a great crowd.

Kenny's is located at 1134 Street Rd. in Southampton.
