Bertucci's has brought its brick oven and about 100 jobs to Bensalem.

The chain restaurant opened Sunday on Horizon Boulevard at the site of the former .

“We completely reconstructed the restaurant from the previous concept that had been in the building,” said spokesman Skip Weldon. “We re-used equipment and walls where available but needed to build a Bertucci’s, complete with our signature brick oven.”

Weldon said Bensalem was chosen because the Philadelphia market is a strong one for Bertucci's.

“We have 15 restaurants in the market.  The Philly area consumers love our brick oven menu and premium quality brick oven pizza,” he said. “A location opened in the Bensalem area that had the right combination of retail and business customers as well as residential customers.  We expect to fill our dining room and keep our carry-out business very busy.  Bertucci’s has high awareness in the Bensalem trade area and many residents have expressed a desire to have Bertucci’s closer.”

Weldon said the Italian restaurant will employ more than 100 people.

“That is both full-time and part-time employees including management, front-of-house servers, bartenders, hosts and back-of-house cooks, dishwashers etcetera.,” he said.

Weldon said Sunday was “very busy.”

“The Bertucci’s in Bensalem is off to a great start,” he said. “Bensalem is a special location because it is our 95th Bertucci’s and has opened during our 30th birthday celebration.”

Before opening, Weldon said, there were some friends and family events with meal proceeds going to the Cradles to Crayons charity, which helps homeless and low-income children.

Bertucci's was founded in 1981 and is based in Massachusetts.
