Chick-fil-A Adding Calorie Counts to Menu

Chick-fil-A is joining other fast-food chains, including McDonalds, in posting calories on the menu.

When ordering fast food, is ignorance bliss?

Well not for long. Chick-fil-A announced today that later this month, it will add calorie counts to its menus so customers can be aware of exactly what they are eating.

The chain said it is adding calorie counts to its menu boards nationally “in an effort to help customers make more informed ordering decisions and to assist guests in selecting meals that suit their individual dietary needs and preferences.”

In 2012, McDonald’s began adding calorie counts to its menus. Places likeCorner Bakery Café and Cosi do the same.

“Adding calorie counts to our menu boards is just another channel we are using to communicate our nutritional information to customers,” said David Farmer, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of product strategy and development.

Farmer said Chick-fil-A, which specializes in chicken, has never “shied away” from communicating nutrition information. The chain’s website has a meal calculator and there are nutrition pamphlets available for customers.

However, the latest move by Chick-fil-A will make customers well aware of the nutrition in their meal before they even order it.

Chick-fil-A also announced that in conjunction with the new display, it will add more healthy options to the menu. The chain is adding a cobb salad, an Asian salad and a grilled market salad to the menu.

Each salad will have between 180 and 430 calories without dressing.
