Fro-Yo Swirls into Bensalem

Swurlz Frozen Yogurt opens up Friday just in time to offer up self-serve, frosty treats for the summer.

At a time when dozens of small business owners are dipping their toes into the growing frozen yogurt market in Bucks County, self-employed entrepreneur Glen Primak is already at work on his second location.

"There's no doubt that frozen yogurt is pretty popular right now," said Primak. "I like interacting with younger people, and I'm big on fundraisers for schools and youth groups. Frozen yogurt was the best way to be a part of the community."

Swurlz Frozen Yogurt holds its grand opening celebration in Bensalem on Friday at 11:30 a.m., and judging by the hungry anticipation of the shop's 1,400 Facebook fans, the doors could not open a moment sooner.

Primak opened his first Swurlz Frozen Yogurt in Langhorne in April 2012 and built up a strong enough following to branch out to a new shop located at 2605 Street Road, in a prime spot next to Panera Bread.

"We're going to get everyone who's looking for a nice dessert after lunch and dinner," said Primak.

The concept of Primak's shop runs pretty similar to the rest of the frozen yogurt shops that have invaded Bucks County. Just like Menchie's in Warminster, Go Bananas in Upper Southampton and the Yogurt Cup in Levittown, customers can step up to the yogurt machines and pour their own cups and add toppings from an endless array of choices.

"We have the standard chocolate and vanilla yogurt flavors, plus some other fun ones," said Primak. "Salted caramel pretzel is the most popular one at the Langhorne store, so we definitely brought that over. We cycle the flavors about every two to three weeks. People say we rotate them either too fast or not fast enough, but that three week routine seems pretty safe."

Once the combinations have been completed, customers take their treats to the register to get weighed. The cost is $.49 per ounce, plus an extra dollar for a waffle bowl. Guests during Friday's grand opening will receive the first two ounces of their order free.

Swurlz Frozen Yogurt is located at 2605 Street Road, Bensalem. Hours of operation: Mon.-Sat. 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sun. 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
