State Slots Revenue Jumps in February from Last Year; Down at Parx

Monthly slots revenue down 1.81 percent at Bensalem casino.

HARRISBURG — Slots revenue at was down again in February compared to last year’s figures.

According to a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board release, Parx and Harrah’s Casino in Chester were the only two with lower revenue than last year. Parx revenue dropped 1.81 percent from $32.01 million to $31.43 million. Harrah’s dropped 2.01 percent from $24.74 million to $24.24 million.

Seven of the state’s other casinos saw revenue increases of between 6 percent and 32 percent. Also, Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia was not yet open in February 2010 and had $13.37 million in revenue last month.

Statewide, February’s slot machine revenue was 17.6 percent higher this year over February 2010. Slots at the state’s ten casinos produced nearly $198 million in gross revenue in February 2011 compared to $168 million in February 2010. The average number of operating slot machines at these facilities was 26,789 in February 2011 and 25,527 in February 2010.

The average tax generation per day rose 23 percent from $3.13 million per day in January, when harsh winter weather affected the ability of patrons to visit Pennsylvania casinos, to $3.86 million per day in February.

Tax collections on slots revenue last month was over $108 million by the state casinos and over $17 million from Parx. Including $10.69 million to the state; $1.26 million to local governments; $1.57 to the state Economic Development & Tourism Fund; and $3.67 million to the state Race Horse Development Fund.
