10 Years of Iraq War Casualties: Bucks County Remembers

Twelve Bucks County residents are among the 197 Pennsylvanians and 4,802 Americans and allies lost in the war.

This week marks 10 years since the beginning of the Iraq war, a good time honor those from Bucks County who sacrificed their lives in the fight.

By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting.

In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 197 Pennsylvanians.

Among them, are 12 people from Bucks. From the CNN war casualties website:

  • Travis Lemma Manion, 26, of Doylestown. Killed while conducting combat operations in Falluja, Anbar province on April 29, 2007.
  • Colby James Umbrell, 26, of Doylestown. Died of wounds suffered when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Musayyib, Iraq, on May 3, 2007.
  • Shawn Michael Suzch, 32, of Hilltown. One of five soldiers killed when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near them as they patrolled in Baghdad, Iraq, on March 10, 2008
  • Robert Henry Dembowski Jr., 20, of Ivyland. Died of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq, on May 24, 2007.
  • Robert Thomas Mininger, 21, of Sellersville. Died of wounds received in an explosion during combat operations against enemy forces in Falluja, Iraq, on June 6, 2005
  • Maurice Jerome Johnson, 21, of Levittown. Died from injuries suffered when a roadside bomb struck his Humvee in Mosul, Iraq, on Nov. 1, 2003.
  • Jae Sik Moon, 21, of Levittown. Died on December 25, 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle while on patrol in Baghdad on Dec. 14.
  • Nathaniel Edward Detample, 19, of Morrisville. One of four soldiers killed when a mine exploded, followed by an enemy attack with small-arms fire in Bayji, Iraq, on Aug. 9, 2005.
  • Tamarra Joharidelonda Ramos, 24, of Quakertown. Died of non-combat related injuries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 1, 2003.
  • Mark Conrad Baum, 32, of Telford. Died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small-arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq, on February 21, 2009
  • Allen James Dunckley, 25, of Yardley. One of two soldiers killed when their unit came in contact with enemy forces using a homemade bomb and small arms fire in Salman Pak, Iraq, on May 14, 2007.
  • William Joseph Maher III, 35, of Yardley. Killed when a homemade bomb was dropped from an overpass onto his convoy as it traveled through Baghdad's Al Rashid district on July 28, 2003.
