20-Year-Old Cancer Patient Honored at Blood Drive

A Red Cross sponsored blood drive will be held on Wednesday, March 13 to benefit Jean Shapcott, a 20-year-old who has a rare form of liver cancer.

A benefit and blood drive will be held to raise awareness for a Bristol Borough resident who is in stage four of a rare form of liver cancer.

Jean Shapcott, who is a 2010 graduate of Bristol Borough High School—where the drive will be held—found out days before Christmas that she has fibrolmellular hepatocellular carcinoma. This type of cancer is so rare that only 200 cases have been reported worldwide according to a Bucks Local News article.

The drive, which is sponsored by the Red Cross, will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the high school. The drive will be used as an opportunity to help raise money and awareness for Shapcott, one of the event's coordinators told Patch.

"In addition to the blood drive, there will be a baked goods table, with the proceeds benefiting Jean Shapcott," Terry Zuschnitt said. "To provide a calm and serene environments, harpists have volunteered their time and will be playing throughout the blood drive."
