Boil Water Advisory Issued for Some Aqua Pa. Customers

Some Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. customers are advised to boil water after a main break. The break also caused water outages that made students and staff of two elementary schools hold classes at other district buildings.

Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. has issued a boil water advisory after a main break occurred in Bensalem early on Tuesday, according to the company.

Customers on Hulmeville Road between Street Road and Park Avenue should boil their water because of a loss of pressure as a result of the water main break.

Water should be boiled to kill potential bacteria and organisms in the water for one minute and then cooled before using, according to Aqua. Otherwise, "bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation."

The main was shut down at about 5:30 a.m. and crews worked to restore water service in the affected area, according to a press release from Aqua. Water samples were collected Tuesday and will again be collected on Wednesday. Customers in the affected area should boil their water until the results of the bacteriological samples are received.

Aqua expects to receive results on Thursday.

Because of the water main break, Benjamin Rush Elementary School and Cecelia Snyder Middle School were without water, which caused the district to move students to other buildings, according to information from Bensalem Township School District.

"As a result, [the school district was] advised by the Township to move our students to locations with bathrooms and water," a release from Superintendent David Baugh said.

Students from Rush were taken to Bensalem High School, while Snyder students and staff walked across Hulmeville Road to Robert K. Shafer Middle School with help from Bensalem Police. At dismissal, Rush students who walk to school were taken back to Rush while those who take the bus were dismissed from the high school, the school district said.

"What a great opportunity to practice moving to a remote location in a non-emergency situation!" Baugh said. "I am very proud of our students for their excellent behavior and flexibility during this event."

Students will be at their home schools on Wednesday, since the water was restored on Tuesday afternoon.
