Don't Let Hurricane Irene Ruin Your Night

Twenty-somethings: Hurricanes don't have to blow.

With the recent hurricane coming through, twenty-somethings may find their plans ruined for the weekend, which is especially upsetting to college students, many of whom are spending their last weekend of summer in Bensalem before heading back to school.

For the majority of those who are accustomed to spending their Saturday night at parties or bars, these unfortunate circumstances
definitely put a halt to any plans. But don't let Irene tell you what to do. Not this weekend.

Unless living in , you don't have to let the hurricane spoil plans. In fact, embracing the hurricane
(provided your family is safe and has an emergency plan in effect) could be a lot of fun.

For the twenty-something college kids, there's no reason not to party. In fact, there's all the more reason to do something about it while the hurricane tears its way up the East coast. Here are some ideas:

  1. Throw a tropical-themed party.
  2. Serve some hurricanes.
  3. Watch Twister, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, or any other appropriately-themed disaster movie. Or Me, Myself, and Irene.
  4. Listen to "Rock you like a Hurricane" on repeat.

While these ideas are just a ton of hurricane puns, it's important to make sure that safety is a primary concern. Some tips to make sure you act responsiblely, now that we're all adults now:

  1. Make sure your cell phone is charged beforehand. In case the power goes out, you'll want to be able to stay in touch with friends and family. Since a lot of college kids no longer memorize phone numbers, be sure to write important ones down. Landline phones still work without power.
  2. Don't get too drunk tonight. You're going to need to keep your wits about you.
  3. can wait to be returned. You don't need to risk an auto accident to save an extra $1/night.
  4. Unplug your computer and back up your video game saves! Game data can be erased if the storm shuts down your power while autosaving.

Don't be too reckless tonight, and certainly be wreck-less, and remember that no party or date is worth risking your or your friends' necks for. With college coming up next week, there's going to be plenty of parties waiting for you. Be sure that you make it.
