Police: Residents Should Travel Only As Needed

Bensalem is still experiencing a large amount of damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy, a police release stated. While there was no reported flooding, there was a substantial amount of residents and businesses with no power and streets with no traffic lights. 

“Debris, wires and fallen trees on roadways are a concern,” Sgt. Andrew Aninsman said. “Power is still out in many parts of the Township including a large portion of Street Road from Trevose Road to State Road, Bristol Pike, State Road and many side roads.”

Police want to residents to remain safe while traveling and clearing debris from their homes.

“We continue to ask people to use common sense and only travel as needed,” Aninsman said. “We understand that people want to clear their homes of debris but it is recommended to, if power lines are on or around the damage, to leave it until all of the power lines are fixed. Although people feel the power lines are off it can become active as PECO restores those areas.”

The debris could cause more trouble this evening.

“As the evening approaches, travel will become more hazardous as motorists will not be able to see all of the debris on the roads,” Aninsman said.
