Will Hurricane Isaac Impact Us?

As summer winds down, the good news is there's an extended weekend is ahead of us. The bad news is that it may rain for part of it as the leftovers from Hurricane Isaac possibly track into the Mid Atlantic.

Isaac's remnants won't produce Irene or even Lee-like impacts across the region. No winds to 80 miles per hour. No rainfall that's measured by the foot. Nor will there be coastal flooding issues to deal with or orders to get the hell off the beach. Those type of impacts will be felt along the Gulf Coast, where Isaac will make landfall on Tuesday evening.

Isaac's future from landfall is less clear at this point, with some computer modeling suggesting it will track through the Ohio Valley and through the East Coast at some point over Labor Day weekend and other modeling suggesting the bulk of the rains will stay to our south. If the leftover moisture does move through, it would provide an enhanced shot at rain and thunder. Some minor flooding can't be ruled out as we have had a good deal of rain the past month. However, it shouldn't approach the scale of flooding and damage we saw a year ago with the twin storms. Stay tuned.

With that out of the way, this week's weather features an unsettled start Monday with a frontal boundary approaching us from the west. This front will trigger a few showers and storms on Monday night into Tuesday morning as the front pushes through. Once that front clears later Tuesday, the region will be exposed to a few nice days. Wednesday looks especially nice with lower humidity and a touch of coolness in the morning.

Temperatures will warm back up after the high pressure nudges away, leading to a warm end of the week (thought it could get somewhat stormy if Isaac's leftovers track through). Labor Day, from this vantage point, looks nice but warm with temperatures in the upper 80s.
