Restoring Casino Rebate Goal for Newcomer

Democrat Kevin Brutschea is running for a seat on the Republican-controlled Bensalem Township Council.

Six candidates are competing for three seats on the Bensalem Township Council.

(Patch is posting profiles of each of the candidates who responded to our questions).

KEVIN BRUTSCHEA58, is a Democrat vying for a seat on the Republican-controlled Bensalem Township Council.

A Bensalem native, Brutschea received an Associate's degree in business administration from Bucks County Community College.

What best qualifies you for a term on the Bensalem Township Council?

I've seen many changes, some good and some bad. In 1978 I worked in the Bensalem Public Works Department's summer program, and saw many areas of the township I otherwise would have not seen. My current work takes me into surrounding communities, so I see how they've handled problems.

What do you see as the big issues facing the town?

The first problem is the broken promise to citizens on the $300 rebate. It has dwindled down to $100, and may go away altogether next year. Another problem I see is development that meets township codes, but has a negative affect. Questionable budget items and approvals are a concern also.

If elected, how would you work to handle those issues?

First priority is restoring the rebate. This was a promise made for the inconvenience of Parx Casino. Hold developers accountable for projects that negatively impact the town, as in increased traffic, law enforcement, and the ability to provide effective education. A realistic review of revenues and expenses is also needed.

How should the local tax revenue generated from Parx Casino be used?

For the service, protection, and benefits of the citizens.

The public seems to have a degree of distrust of public officials following the recent scandal involving Bensalem Township School District current and former employees. If elected, how would you work to rebuild trust?

It's simple, hold managers and supervisors–regardless of political affiliation– accountable. Being proactive and involved, and not delegating the responsibility to guard can re-build the taxpayers' trust.

Anything else youíd like to add?

My focus will be directed toward restoring honor and integrity to the people of Bensalem.
