Are you headed to college? Make sure you visit the campus!

College-bound students need to find out if the school that looks great on paper is the right fit. There's just no substitute for the importance of the campus visit in your college search.

To capture the interest of prospective students and their parents, the admissions offices of colleges and universities (including Holy Family University) send out lots of information, online and via snail mail--to pique their attention, to get noticed.

These publications are usually well-written and designed and full of lovely color photos (or campus beauty shots, as we call them). The brochures also include abundant data regarding campus size, number of majors and minors, number of courses offered each semester, class size, varsity sports available, tuition, fees for room and board, and other useful facts.

While providing all this information in an attractive printed piece can help students narrow down their college choices, it's still no substitute for the campus visit.

College-bound students need to find out if the school that looks great on paper or online is the right fit for them. They need to take the time to "kick the tires," so to speak. To feel as though they belong on campus, in the dining hall, in the dorms, on the field.

Luckily, Holy Family University provides many such opportunities through Open Houses and campus visit events because we want students to size us up for fit. Students who succeed here usually fit well, too.

On Sunday, November 11, the main campus of Holy Family University in Northeast Philadelphia is holding its final official Open House for the fall semester, beginning at noon. The event begins at the Campus Center and includes campus tours, workshops and information sessions.

More than 40 faculty and staff members will be on hand to meet with interested students. Holy Family professors representing every major academic area--education, nursing, business, arts & sciences--will gladly answer questions and provide more specific program information. While we look great on paper, we also want to ensure that everyone who visits Holy Family on Sunday leaves with a clearer picture of that all-important fit, which can make getting an undergraduate education a rich and transformational experience.

As our admissions officers like to say, "Choosing a college is big. Choosing the right college is bigger."  We've proven ourselves to be the right fit for generations of students. The November Open House is a chance to find out whether Holy Family is you or your son or daughter's right fit.
