New Haven, Conn. - Holy Family University freshman outside hitter Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7 as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
 
Herring helped the Tigers to a 2-1 week as the team improved to 7-14 overall and 5-5 in conference play.  Holy Family began the week with a 3-0 victory at Chestnut Hill (Oct. 3) and then fell short to Wilmington University (Oct. 5) by the score of 3-1.  The Tigers capped the week with a come-from-behind victory at Bloomfield College (3-2) on Saturday.
 
Herring finished the week averaging 3.08 kills per set to go along with an attack percentage of .394.  She also recorded 15 service aces, seven total blocks and seven digs.  Herring recorded a career-best 14 kills in the victories over Chestnut Hill and Bloomfield.  She hit over .400 percent in both matches, including a season-high .480 against the Griffins.  Herring also tallied a career-high nine service aces against Bloomfield to increase her conference leading total to 42.
 
This season Herring is averaging 1.96 kills per set to go along with a .227 attack percentage and has 37 total blocks, including nine solo blocks.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Friday, Oct. 12 as the Tigers travel to face the University of the Sciences in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
