Nyack Stuns Tigers With Last Second Goal

Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Selena Vargas scored the game-winning goal with 1.7 seconds remaining on the clock as Nyack College defeated the Holy Family University women's soccer team by the score of 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
 
Holy Family is now 0-6-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while Nyack improved to 3-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the CACC.
 
With the clock winding down the final seconds of regulation, Nyack was credited with a corner kick.  Senior Sabrina Caires kicked the ball towards the goal as Vargas headed the ball into the back of the net with 1.7 seconds showing on the clock.
 
Nyack battled back from a two-goal deficit scoring three goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation.  Senior Ashlee Hayes scored in the 76th minute, while junior Sandy Garcia tied the game at 2-2 in the 84th minute.
 
Holy Family scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead after sophomore MaryKate Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert's) tallied her first goal of the season as senior Kathryn Helkowski (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan) assisted on the play.
 
The Tigers would go on to double their score early in the second half as senior Megan Tole (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) connected on her second goal of the season after receiving a pass from fellow classmate Corinne Retter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  Tole's goal in the 66th minute gave Holy Family a 2-0 advantage.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
