Philadelphia, Pa. - Philadelphia University scored the game's final two goals as the Rams edged out the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team by the score of 10-9 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.

Holy Family is now 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, while Philadelphia improves to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.  The Rams snapped the Tigers 12-game regular season winning streak against conference opponents, which dated back to last season.

Senior Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) and freshman Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) each scored a team-high three goals to lead the Tigers' offense.  Settar's three scores marked a career-high as she has scored in three straight games.

Senior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also tallied three points as she finished the game with two assists and one goal.  She also controlled four draws.  Sophomore Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) led the team with five draw controls, while junior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) recorded a team-high three ground balls to go along with a caused turnover on the defensive end.

For Philadelphia, junior Emily Ray led all scorers with four goals, including the game-tying goal late in the second half.  Fellow classmates, Carli DiCioccio and Libby Nichols, each scored a pair of goals for the Rams.  DiCioccio also recorded three ground balls and controlled two draws.

Holy Family trailed 6-5 at the half and gained the lead right away to start the second half after back-to-back goals by Settar within the first 2:38.  Settar scored :59 seconds into the second stanza to tie the game and then gave the Tigers a 7-6 advantage at the 27:22 mark.

Philadelphia would eventually tie the game up at 7-7 after Ray scored a goal after receiving a pass from sophomore Lauren Hartman with 21:28 left to play.  Minutes later, a free position goal by DiCioccio gave the Rams an 8-7 lead (18:03) as the Tigers found themselves trailing by one score.

However, Holy Family rallied with another back-to-back scores within nearly a minute of one another.  Mattioli responded to DiCioccio's free position goal with one of her own to tie the game at 8-8 (17:08).  A minute later, McNesby scored her first and only goal of the game to give the Tigers a 9-8 lead with 16:10 remaining in regulation.

As the half progressed, the Rams came through with the equalizing goal again taking advantage of a Holy Family turnover resulting in a Ray score to tie the game at 9-9 with 12:16 to play.

Minutes later, the Rams took advantage of back-to-back fouls by the Tigers resulting in free position shot attempts.  However, both shots sailed high as Philadelphia failed to score.  Despite the two failed attempts, the Rams kept possession long enough for freshman Liz Mower to score the eventual game-winner at the 10:12 mark.

Mower's goal would be the final score of the game as both teams were held scoreless the final ten-plus minutes of regulation.

Holy Family had a few opportunities to tie the score down the stretch, but was held to only three shots in the final ten minutes, including a free position attempt with 1:19 to play.

Freshman Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) finished the game with seven saves in goal for the Tigers.

Holy Family overcame a four-goal deficit as Philadelphia opened the game with a 5-1 run, including the game's first four scores.  The Tigers went on to outscore the Rams, 4-1 the rest of the first half to cut the lead down to one goal (6-5).

Holy Family controlled the draws throughout the game by a 14-7 margin.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 28 as the Tigers travel to face Kutztown University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
