Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team recorded its third straight sweep over a conference opponent as the Tigers took two from Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.  Holy Family came away with a 1-0 shutout victory in game one and rallied in game two for a 4-3 triumph.

Holy Family improves to 15-11 overall and 10-2 in conference play, while Felician is now 11-19 overall and 7-9 in the CACC.

A trio of players recorded three hits on the afternoon for the Tigers, including senior Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and junior Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) who both finished 3-for-5 in the two games.  Junior Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) was 3-for-6 at the plate.  Both Myers and Borrelli hit solo home runs in game two to help fuel the Tigers come-from-behind victory.

Game One: Holy Family 1, Felician 0

Junior Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) (4-3) was lights out for the Tigers in the opener as she earned her second straight shutout victory in as many days.  Alligood held Felician to only four hits through seven innings and struck out a season-high six batters.

Holy Family scored the game's only run in the first inning as freshman Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) drilled a one-out double to center field.  The very next batter in Borrelli then drove in Alvarado with a single up the middle to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way through the next six innings as the Tigers held on to the one-run victory.

Felician senior Kristen Tenwolde was credited with the hard-luck loss as she went six innings allowing only one run off four hits.  She also recorded two strikeouts.

Game Two: Holy Family 4, Felician 3

The Tigers found themselves trailing 3-1 entering the sixth inning, but quickly erased the deficit with two swings of the bat.  Borrelli led the inning off with a solo home run, her fourth of the year, to left center field to come within one run of the Golden Falcons.

Myers then stepped to the plate and followed in Borrelli's footsteps launching her fourth home run of the season over the right field fence to tie the game at 3-3.  Borrelli and Myers each finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

After a pitching change, Corrado singled up the middle and was followed by sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) who reached on an error by the third baseman.  Junior Valerie Miller (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) pinch ran for Corrado and would advance one base along with Tomlinson after a passed ball.

With runners at second and third and zero outs, the Tigers looked posed for a big inning.  However, Felician managed to force back-to-back groundouts to record two quick outs.  Miller was caught in a run down between home and third as sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) reached first base on a fielder's choice.

With two outs now, freshman Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) delivered a double to left field scoring Tomlinson as the Tigers led 4-3.

In the seventh inning, sophomore Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) struck out the first two hitters of the inning and retired the final batter on a foul out to first base as Holy Family sealed the victory.

Chilutti (2-3) picked up the victory after relieving starting pitching, junior Victorie Reuscher, in the third innings.  Chilutti went five innings allowing only two hits and striking out a season-high five batters.

Felician scored three runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run triple by sophomore Aimee Lopez.  The Golden Falcons got the first two hitters on base with back-to-back singles.  Lopez finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.  Junior Halei Van Dyke also tallied a pair of hits (2-for-3) and recorded a RBI after driving in Lopez in the same inning.

Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, April 7 as the Tigers travel to face Caldwell College in a key CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 1 p.m.   The Cougars are currently 12-0 in the CACC and sit atop the conference standings.
