Tigers Drop Non-Conference Contest to Urbana, 62-50

Holy Family vs Urbana Recap (11/10/12)

BOX SCORE

Cedarville, Ohio - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to Urbana University by the score of 62-50 to close out the Don Callan Classic hosted by Cedarville University Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family is now 1-1 overall, while Urbana picks up its first win of the season to even out at 1-1 to start the young season.

Urbana opened the game on a 15-0 run and held Holy Family scoreless for the first 5:44 until sophomore Richard Council (New York, N.Y./Rice) split a pair of free throw attempts to put the Tigers on the board, 15-1.

Holy Family trailed by double-digits most of the first half but eventually cut Urbana's lead to single digits after freshman Hunter Wysocki (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) scored a layup to make the score 23-14 with 7:21 to play in the half.

Urbana increased its lead back to double-digits after a three-pointer by junior Josh Brown to make the score 26-14 with 6:42 left on the clock.  Brown led a trio of players that scored in double-figures for the Blue Knights with a game-high 15 points.

On the ensuing possession, a jumper by junior transfer Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) would spark a Holy Family offensive surge as the Tigers used a 12-2 run to come within two points of Urbana's lead.

Ezell, for the second straight game, led the Tigers in scoring as he tallied a game-high 15 points.

Junior Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) capped the run with a three-point play after being fouled while dunking.  Munoz made the free throw to make the score 28-26 with 1:32 to play in the half.  Munoz finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Blue Knights went on to score the half's final four points to take a 32-26 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Urbana maintained its lead not allowing the Tigers to come any closer than one possession of its lead.  Holy Family cut the lead to one possession after Ezell converted a pair of free throws to make the score 39-37 with 14:03 to play.

However, Urbana went on an 8-0 run over the next two-plus minutes to increase its lead back to double-digits by the score of 47-37 with 12:08 left in the second half.

The Tigers came within five points of the lead later in the half after Council split a pair of free throws to make the score 48-42 with 8:39 left on the clock.

That would be as close as the Tigers would get as Urbana maintained its lead the rest of the way, increasing the margin by double-digits on three different occasions in the final eight-plus minutes.

Wysocki finished with eight points and four boards for the Tigers off the bench.

For Urbana, junior Danny Goins finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while senior Armond Battle contributed ten points and four rebounds.

Holy Family is back in action on Friday, Nov. 16 as the Tigers host Molloy College in the home opener at the Campus Center Gym.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
