Tigers End Conference Play With Split at Post

Waterbury, Conn. - The Holy Family softball team wrapped up its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a split at Post University Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.  The Tigers took by the opener by the score of 3-1, while the Eagles came away with a 5-3 victory in game two.
 
Holy Family is now 23-21 overall and concludes conference play at 17-9.  As a result, the Tigers will be the sixth seed in next week's CACC Tournament.  It'll mark the second straight season that Holy Family has advanced to postseason action.  Post concludes its season at 17-30 overall and 8-18 in the CACC.
 
Freshmen Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) and Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) each led the Tigers with four hits on the afternoon.  Both players finished 4-for-8 at the plate and scored a run.  Alvarado recorded a double and a triple to go along with one RBI.  Senior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) hit her first home run of the season in game one.  She finished the day 2-for-7 with a team-high two RBI. 
 
In the pitching circle, sophomore Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) continues to stay hot with a complete game victory in game one to improve to 5-5 on the year.  Chilutti finished the afternoon with nine innings of work, while allowing one earned run off seven hits.  She also walked three and struck out three batters.
 
Game One: Holy Family 3, Post 1
 
In game one, Holy Family broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning scoring the game's first run.  After a one out walk by junior AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), Alvarado followed with a run scoring triple to right center field.  Dalton scored to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
 
Holy Family added on to its lead in the sixth thanks to Iden's first home run of the season.  After two straight outs to start the inning, freshman Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) kept the inning alive with a single to right field.  Iden then came through with a two-run homer to center to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.
 
Iden's homer would come in handy as Post scored its first run of the game in its half of the sixth.  Senior Lianna May and junior Jackie Bonamassa led the inning off with infield hits.  After a flyout by junior Casey Sclafani advanced both runners, junior Stephanie DeMartino followed with a sacrifice fly to score May. 
 
Chilutti (5-5) went the distance as she scatter six hits in seven innings of work.  She allowed one run and struck out one in the victory.  
 
Post senior pitcher Ashley Cummings (6-11) also went the distance as she allowed three runs of six hits in seven innings.  Cummings also struck out six batters, while walking four.
 
Game Two: Post 5, Holy Family 3
 
In game two, Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a pair of doubles highlighted the inning for the Eagles.  DeMartino capped the scoring with a ground-rule double as Sclafani scored on the play.  She reached on an error earlier in the inning.
 
Holy Family got one of the runs back in the second after the first three batters reach base to start the inning.  After a fly out by Iden, sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) reached on a fielder's choice scoring Daubert who led the inning off with a single.  Post managed to retire the final batter avoiding further damage by the Tigers' offense.
 
Post added another run in the third and then came away with two runs in the fifth inning to lead 5-1.  Sclafani drove in a run with a double to right field and later scored on a single by freshman Samantha Esque.
 
Holy Family threatened in its final at-bat as the Tigers scored a pair of runs after an error by Post with two outs in the inning.  Sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) and Alvarado scored after Casey reached base by the error by the Post first baseman.  However, senior Johanna Rice (8-12) managed to retire the Tigers' final batter to win her eighth game of the season.  Rice allowed three unearned runs and eight hits in the victory.  She also walked one and struck out two.
 
Sophomore Victoria Reuscher (Cheltenham, Pa./Little Flower HS for Girls) (9-5) received the loss for the Tigers after going four innings.  Reuscher allowed five runs (2 earned) off seven hits.  She also finished with three struck outs.  Chilutti entered in the fifth and allowed only one hit in two relief innings.  She walked one and finished with two strikeouts.
 
Holy Family concludes to the regular season with a non-conference double header at the University of Bridgeport.  Game one is slated for 12 p.m.
