Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored what turned out to be the game-winning basket with :40 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Holy Family University women's basketball team a 72-70 victory over cross-town rival Philadelphia University Wednesday night at the Campus Center. 
 
Holy Family, ranked eighth in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 20-2 overall and 14-1 in conference play.  With the win, Holy Family maintains its one game lead over Goldey-Beacom College (13-2) in the CACC South Division.  Philadelphia is now 10-10 overall and 6-7 in the CACC.
 
Senior Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) led the Holy Family offense with a game-high 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season.  Brady shot 9-of-17 from the field and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.  Senior Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) also recorded a double-double, her ninth of the season, as she finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Mann also blocked four shots and recorded three steals. 
 
Senior Ana Cruz (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) also scored in double-figures scoring 11 points to go along with three assists.  Senior Molly Hanlon (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) and junior Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil Academy) each finished with eight points.  McCollum also grabbed eight rebounds. 
 
For Philadelphia, freshman Tori Arnao recorded her tenth double-double of season after scoring 15 points and grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds. Sophomores Najah Jacobs and Monica Schacker each scored 17 points for the Rams, while senior Kristen Blye contributed ten points.  Fellow classmate Taylor Peltzer came off the bench and added nine points and six boards.
 
With :40 seconds left in the overtime period Mann gave the Tigers a 72-70 lead after draining the first overtime basket by either squad.  The Holy Family defense held Philadelphia to 0-of-10 shooting from the field in overtime as the Rams scored only two points off free throws.
 
After Mann's eventual game-winner, Philadelphia had a few opportunities to tie the game but came up short from the free throw line and from the field.
 
Holy Family led by as many as ten points at the 13:32 mark of the second half after junior Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) scored a layup to make the score 42-32. 
 
As the half progressed, Philadelphia began chipping away at the Holy Family lead and eventually tied the score at 53-53 after Peltzer split a pair of free throws with 6:24 left in the half.
 
Holy Family followed with a 9-2 run to lead by seven points after a pair of free throws by Cruz made the score 62-55 with 4:19 on the clock. 
 
Once again, Philadelphia came soaring back and tied the game and took the lead after a three-pointer by Schacker made the score 63-62 (3:08).  
 
On the ensuing possession, Holy Family regained the lead after a Brady layup and took a three point in the final minute of the half after Hanlon drained a jumper to make the score 68-65 with :45 seconds to play.
 
Philadelphia went on to tie the game at 68-68 on its next possession to force overtime after Schacker knocked down a three-pointer with :36 seconds left on the clock. 
 
Both teams had an opportunity to take the lead in the final :36 seconds but came up short on their respectively shot attempts. 
 
Holy Family controlled the boards as the Tigers outrebounded the Rams, 60-46.  Holy Family also shot 15-of-18 from the free throw line, while Philadelphia made 17-of-26. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 9 as the Tigers travel to face Felician College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
