Tigers Roll Past Chestnut Hill, 13-8

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team picked up a 13-8 victory at Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field #1 on the campus of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
 
Holy Family improves to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill falls to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action. 
 
Holy Family had eight different players score goals, including senior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and junior Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) who both led the team with three goals apiece.  McNesby also recorded an assist to total four points and in the process inched even closer to the program's all-time points record.  McNesby now has 181 career points and trails former standout and teammate Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) (2009-2012) who set the current standard of 184 points last season. 
 
Senior Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) also scored multiple goals for the Tigers as she finished the game with two scores.  Senior Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led the team with seven draw controls to go along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Freshman Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) led the team with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Settar also scored a goal. 
 
For Chestnut Hill, senior Brianne Timony led the Griffins with three goals, while fellow classmates Lindsay Alexander and Christina Squillante each added a pair of scores.  Alexander also controlled two draws and caused two turnovers.
 
Holy Family trailed 7-5 with 3:11 to play in the first half after Squillante scored her first goal of the game for the Griffins.  However, Holy Family would go on to score three unanswered goals to close out the half to lead 8-7 entering halftime.
 
McNesby started the rally after converting a free position shot with 2:17 on the clock.  Following her score, the Tigers controlled the draw and a minute later McNesby struck again as she tied the game at 7-7 with 1:19 remaining until halftime. 
 
The Tigers once again controlled the ensuing draw by Maloney moving the ball towards the Chestnut Hill zone.  With :32 seconds remaining in the first half, LaRose gave the Tigers an 8-7 lead with her first score of the game.
 
In the second half Holy Family opened the half with a score at the 28:43 mark as a goal by junior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) gave the Tigers a 9-7 lead.  A few minutes later Squillante brought Chestnut Hill within on goal of the Tigers' lead making the score 9-8. 
 
As it turned out, that would be the final score for Chestnut Hill as Holy Family outscored the Griffins 4-0 in the final 27:16 of the game to seal the victory.   
 
Freshman Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made six saves in goal for the Tigers after facing 19 shots.  Holy Family outshot Chestnut Hill, 32-19, and also held the edge in ground balls (17-12) and draw controls (14-9).
 
Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Delahanty made 12 saves for the Griffins. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, April 6 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
