Tigers Season Comes to an End at CACC Tournament

Holy Family competes at CACC Tournament vs. Wilmington and Bloomfield (05/02/13)

Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University softball team's season came to an end at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Thursday afternoon hosted by Georgian Court University at the GCU Softball Fields. 
 
The Tigers went 0-2 on day one of the double elimination tournament falling to #3 Wilmington University, 10-2, and then to #7 Bloomfield College by the score of 9-4. 
 
Holy Family concludes its season at 24-24, while Wilmington is now 33-18 and Bloomfield is now 21-20. 
 
Senior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) was among three players to finish with multiple hits on the afternoon.  Iden finished 2-for-5 at the plate to go along with five RBI.  The senior third baseman had a two-run double versus Wilmington and hit a three-run home run against Bloomfield. 
 
Junior Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) and sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) also finished with a pair of hits each. 
 
Wilmington 10, Holy Family 2
 
Wilmington exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead on the Tigers.  With two outs in the inning, freshman Cambria Ziemba blooped a single to right field and would score after freshman Brooke Ash tripled to left field to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  Junior Christin Headley then followed with a two-run home run to highlight the inning to increase the lead to 3-0.  Before the inning ended, Wilmington added another run to cap the scoring at 4-0.
 
Holy Family broke through in the top half of the fifth after freshman Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) and Borrelli led the inning off with back-to-back walks.  Two batters later, Iden doubled to right center driving in both Daubert and Borrelli to cut the Wilmington lead to 4-2.
 
However, Wilmington responded with five runs in its half of the fifth to break the game open.  Ziemba highlighted the inning with a two-run single.  She finished the game 3-for-4 to go along with two RBI. 
 
Wilmington clinched the victory in the bottom half of the sixth inning after Headley hit a solo home run over the left field fence in enforce the eight-run rule.  Headley went 3-for-4 at the place to go along with three runs and three RBI.
 
Senior Katie Warrington, the CACC Pitcher of the Year, improved to 17-4 on the year after pitching a complete six-inning game.  Warrington allowed two runs off three hits and struck out nine batters. 
 
Bloomfield 9, Holy Family 4
 
Bloomfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after the first four batters reached base, including a grand slam by senior Krystina Poloni.  The Deacons added another run in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. 
 
In the fourth, Bloomfield tacked on to its lead with two more runs after Poloni hit her second homer of the game.  With a runner at second, Poloni connected on a two-run home run to give the Deacons a 7-0 lead.  Poloni finished the game 3-for-4 to go along with three runs and seven RBI. 
 
The Tigers came through with four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut into the Deacons' lead.  Daubert and Borrelli led the inning off with back-to-back singles and advanced after junior Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) reached on a fielder's choice.  Daubert went on to score after an error by the Bloomfield shortstop. 
 
With runners at first and second, Iden stepped up and launched her third home run of the season over the left field fence to make the score 7-4. 
 
However, that would be as close as the Tigers would get as the Deacons added two insurance runs in the sixth to take a 9-4 lead. 
 
Senior Alexandria Smith (8-7) earned her eighth victory of the season allowing four runs off five hits in four innings of work.  She also finished with seven strikeouts.  Fellow classmate Aly Schraer closed the game out with three innings of work as she allowed just two hits and struck out one to earn her second save of the season.

NOTES: Senior Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) concludes her career as the program's all-time home run leader with 24 homers.... Senior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) ranks 8th all-time in program history with 26 doubles.... Juniors Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) and AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) will enter next year in prime position to reach the 100-hit milestone.  Borrelli ends the year with 93 career hits, while Dalton has 99 career hits.... Holy Family's 24 victories is the most since the 2010 season.... The Tigers hit 28 home runs this season, the most since the 2010 season when the team exploded for 38 homers....Since 2004, Holy Family has hit 20 or more home runs twice (2013 and 2010).
