Millersville, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team salvaged a non-conference doubleheader at Millersville University after picking up a 3-2 victory in game two Sunday afternoon at the Millersville Softball Field.  Holy Family dropped the opener by the score of 1-0.

Holy Family is now 5-9 overall, while Millersville is now 15-5 overall this season.

Junior Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) led the Tigers' offense after finishing 4-of-7 at the plate on the afternoon.  Senior Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) drove in a pair of runs in game two as she finished 2-for-6 with two doubles in the doubleheader.

Game 1: Millersville 1, Holy Family 0

In game one, it was a pitching duel to the very end.  With the scored tied at 0-0 in the bottom half of the seventh, Millersville came through with the game's only run to win in walk-off fashion.  With a runner on third base and one out in the inning, sophomore Stephanie Kulp came through with a base hit scoring freshman Brianna Andraos.  Androas, who was pinch-running for sophomore Ashley Cantiello, scored the game-winning run to give the Marauders a 1-0 victory.  Cantiello led the inning off with a single.

Alligood (1-2) pitched a complete game earning the hard-luck loss in the process.  She allowed six hits and surrendered just one run for the Tigers.  Alligood, who lowered her earned run average to a team-low 1.59, also struck out four batters.

Her counterpart, sophomore Sarah Bertoni, went the distance as well as she allowed only six hits during the course of the game.  Bertoni (11-9) picked up her 11th win of the season as she struck out six batters.

Game Two: Holy Family 3, Millersville 2

The Holy Family offense came alive in game two as the Tigers struck for two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.  Myers highlighted the inning with a two-run double after back-to-back singles by junior AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and Borrelli.

Borrelli's single was the first of her three hits in the game.

Holy Family added another run in the third inning after junior Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) came through with a one-out bases loaded single to score Dalton.  Dalton and Myers drew walks to bookend a single by Borrelli.  However, despite the threat, Millersville managed to get out of the inning without further damage.

Myers finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate to go along with a team-high two RBI.

The three runs seemed to be enough for the Tigers as Chilutti (1-2) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.  With two outs in the sixth, Millersville broke the no-hit bid after redshirt-junior Jamie Motsko tallied a two-out single.

In their final at-bat, the Marauders rallied and came within one run of the Tigers' lead.  Freshman Jordan Sheffield ripped a triple towards the gap, scoring both Kulp and Bertoni with one one.  Kulp reached on a fielder's choice, followed by a base hit by Bertoni.

With the potential tying run on third base, Chilutti battled back and retired the next two batters to pick up her first victory of the season.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, March 26 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 3 p.m. at Helen Randle Park in Newtown.
