GAME 2 BOX SCORE

Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with visiting Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.  Bloomfield took the first game by the score of 5-3 in extra innings, while the Tigers picked up a 3-2 victory in game two.

Holy Family is now 8-10 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while Bloomfield holds a 10-11 overall mark and 2-6 in conference action.

Junior AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) recorded four hits on the afternoon as she finished 4-for-8 at the plate.  Fellow classmate Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) (3-for-8) and freshman Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) (3-for-6) each recorded three hits on the day.  Borrelli also picked up her first victory of the season after pitching a complete game in game two.  She went seven innings, allowing two runs off five hits.  Borrelli struck out three batters.

Sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) came through with a pair of doubles in game one and finished the afternoon 2-for-7.  Freshman Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) also recorded a double (game two) as she finished the day 2-for-3.

Game 1: Bloomfield 5, Holy Family 3 (8)

Junior Kaila Dugger came through with the key hit of the game as she launched a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to give Bloomfield a 5-3 lead in the eighth inning.  Dugger's long ball broke a 3-3 tie to lift the Deacons to victory.

Senior Alexandria Smith, who entered in relief in the seventh inning, shut down the Tigers in order in the bottom half of the eighth inning to pick up her fifth win of the season (5-4).

Bloomfield trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning and scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead.  Holy Family answered in its part of the seventh with the tying run to force extra innings.  With runners at the corner and two outs, Dalton came through with a single to left field scoring junior Valerie Miller (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson).  Junior Haley Brennan led the inning off with a single as Miller came in to pinch run.

Freshman Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) came in as a pinch hitter and sacrificed Miller to second base.  Alvarado followed with a ground out to first as Miller advanced to third on the play.  Two batters later, Dalton came through with the game-tying hit.

Borrelli, Dalton and Tomlinson all finished 2-for-4 in game one.  Alvarado also tallied a pair of hits for the Tigers (2-for-3).

For Bloomfield, junior Toni Coleman finished game one 2-for-3, including a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Game 2: Holy Family 3, Bloomfield 2

In game two, Holy Family took advantage of Bloomfield errors early on.  The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  After back-to-back two out singles by Borrelli and Myers, Tomlinson drove the ball to left field for what appeared to be the third out.  However, the ball bounced out of the glove of the Bloomfield fielder allowing both Borrelli and Myers to score.

Holy Family added another run in the second inning after a Daubert double scored freshman Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) to make the score 3-0.  Casey reached on an error by the third baseman and advanced all the way to third on the play.  Daubert finished the game 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Holy Family held on to the 3-0 lead through six innings as Borrelli limited Bloomfield to zero runs and two hits.  However, in the top half of the seventh, the Deacons rallied to come within one run of the Tigers' lead.

Bloomfield started the inning with three straight hits, including a run scoring single by senior Samantha Dugan.  Two batters later, junior Angie Yoshizu drove a ball to the center field gap as sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made the catch near the fence.  Senior Krystina Poloni, who doubled earlier in the inning, scored on the play as she tagged up from third base.

With the potential tying run sitting at second, Borrelli managed to retire the next batter with a fly out to center field to seal the victory.

Borrelli (1-4) recorded the complete game victory as she allowed five hits, two runs and struck out three batters in seven innings of work.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, April 2 as the Tigers travel to West Chester University for a non-conference doubleheader.  Game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.
