Holy Family University Softball vs. Concordia College Recap (04/21/13)

GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE

Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories over visiting Concordia College Sunday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.  Holy Family took the first game by the score of 4-0 and then capped the sweep with a 9-4 victory in game two.

In between games, Holy Family recognized seniors Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North), Danielle McDevitt (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) that were competing in one of their final home regular season contests at Holy Family.

Holy Family improves to 18-20 overall and 12-8 in the CACC, while Concordia is now 10-23 overall and 9-15 in conference action.  As a result of the two victories this afternoon, the Tigers have clinched a spot in the upcoming CACC Tournament.  Holy Family is currently sixth in the conference standings and could still move up the rankings with six conference games remaining.  The Tigers currently trail Georgian Court (15-7) and USciences (17-7) by one game in the loss column.

Junior Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) (5-for-7) led the Tigers with five hits on the afternoon, while fellow classmate AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) (4-for-7) and freshman Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) (4-for-7) each tallied four hits.  Dalton also launched her fifth home run of the season to go along with four runs and three RBI.   Junior Hayley Brennan (Frankford, Del./Indian River) went 2-for-3 during game two and hit her first career home run.  She also scored three runs and drove in two.

Junior Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) recorded her fourth shutout of the season as she held Concordia to only six hits in seven innings of work in game one.  She also struck out four batters.

Game One: Holy Family 4, Concordia 0

In the opener the Tigers took a 1-0 lead early on scoring a run in the first inning.  After Dalton led the inning off with a double, senior Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) drove her in later in the inning with a double down the right field line.

Holy Family added a pair of runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.  After back-to-back singles by Corrado and Dalton, freshman Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) sacrificed both runners over into scoring position.  Sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) then followed with a walk, however ball four was a wild pitch scoring junior Valerie Miller (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) who entered as a pinch runner for Corrado.

Later in the inning, Myers came through with a run scoring single to make the score 3-0.  Myers finished the game 2-for-3 to go along with two RBI.

Holy Family tacked on another run in the fourth inning after Dalton doubled to right field scoring freshman Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) who led the inning off with a single.  Dalton finished the game 2-for-3 and scored twice.

That would be plenty of offense for Alligood (6-7) as she recorded her sixth victory of the season and fourth shutout.  Alligood went the distance as she scattered six hits in seven innings of work.  She also struck out four batters.

Senior Kristina Patrocinio went 2-for-3 for the Clippers as she recorded a pair of doubles.

Game Two: Holy Family 9, Concordia 4

In game two, Concordia took advantage of two Holy Family errors in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Senior Theresa Magnani recorded an RBI in the inning.

Holy Family quickly responded in its half of the first with four runs to take a 4-2 advantage.   The Tigers took advantage of a key error by the Clippers with two outs to extend the inning.

Dalton led the inning off with a double and later scored after Corrado singled.  However, Corrado would be thrown out at second base trying to advance after a throw to the plate.  With the bases empty and two outs, Myers singled and was followed by a Daubert double to place two runners in scoring position.  Brennan was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Tigers.

With the bases loaded, Casey reached base on an error by the third baseman to keep the inning alive as Myers scored on the play.  Senior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) then came through with a two-run single to cap the scoring in the inning.

Holy Family added three more runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead.  After a run scoring single by sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), the Tigers received a two-run homer by Dalton highlight the inning.  It marked Dalton's fifth homer of the year, tying her for the team lead with Corrado.

Concordia got two of the runs back in the fourth after scoring a pair of runs to make the score 7-4.  Patrocinio led the inning off with her fifth long ball of the season over the center field fence.  Later in the inning, the Clippers added another run after an RBI by sophomore Alexandra Mandarano.

Holy Family responded in its half of the fourth with two runs as well after Brennan launched her first career home run over the left field fence.  Daubert, who led the inning off with a single, scored on the play to give the Tigers a 9-4 lead.

The Holy Family offense supplied its pitchers with all the runs they would need as Reuscher (8-4) picked up her eighth victory of the season.  Reuscher went four innings allowing four runs (1 earned) off five hits.  She also struck out one batter.  Sophomore Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) entered the game in the fifth and earned her first career save after three innings of relief.  Chilutti struck out three batters and allowed only one hit and walked a batter.

Holy Family is back in action on Monday, April 22 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slate for 3 p.m. at Helen Randle Park.
