Women’s Lacrosse Names Captains for 2013 Season

Philadelphia, Pa. - Seniors Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) and Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) have been named captains of the 2013 Holy Family University women's lacrosse team as announced by second year head coach Elizabeth Weber.
 
“I am very excited to announce our three seniors will be our captains for the upcoming season,” said Weber. “Each bring a different style of leadership to the team. They understand what it means to be a student-athlete here at Holy Family. Together, they will be a great group to lead us into our 2013 season.”
 
Holy Family is coming off a record setting-season that was capped with the programs first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship.  The Tigers finished the 2012 season 14-4 overall and 11-1 in the CACC setting new program records in victories in a season. With its 11 wins in conference play, Holy Family also claimed its first CACC regular season title.  Holy Family finished last year with a program-best 11 game-winning streak.
 
McNesby was named the CACC Player of the Year as well as earning All-CACC first team honors last season after compiling a career season.  She set new career marks in points (67), goals (50), assists (17), ground balls (49) and draw controls (129).  McNesby, a two-time All-CACC selection and former CACC Rookie of the Year, finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in goals and fifth in total points.  Her 129 draw controls were second most in Division II. McNesby will enter her senior season ranked third all-time in program history with 151 points and 110 goals.
 
Mattioli also had a career season in 2012 as she set new career-highs in goals (13), assists (2), points (15) and ground balls (30).  Mattioli appeared in all 18 games, including 17 starts at midfield for the Tigers.  She also recorded eight caused turnovers to total 26 for her career.  Mattioli is ranked fourth all-time in caused turnovers and sixth in ground balls.   
 
Maloney appeared in 17 games, including 16 starts last season in the Tigers' backfield.  Maloney helped anchor a defense that limited opponents to only 11.52 goals per game, which ranked tops in the conference.  She finished the year with one goal, 29 ground balls, 25 draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Maloney is the program's all-time leader with 112 career ground balls.
 
Holy Family will begin the 2013 season on Saturday, March 2 as the Tigers travel to face Seton Hill in a non-conference contest.
