Candlelight Ceremony to Honor Sept. 11 Victims

There will be a special ceremony Wednesday at the Garden of Reflection to honor those who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The Garden of Reflection, the official Pennsylvania 9-11 Memorial, will host a “Remembrance in Light” ceremony that will honor the 2,973 people who died in the attacks.

The ceremony will be held from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and will include representation from surviving friends and family members, police and fire, airline pilots, flight attendants and members of the armed forces.

“This ceremony will allow all to remember that those taken from us during the September 11th terrorist attacks are not forgotten,” according to information posted on the Garden of Reflection website.

Ben Sliney, who was the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Operations Manager at the time of the attacks, will be at the ceremony. Sliney was on his first day in that position and was responsible for ordering the nationwide air closure of United States airspace in response to the terrorist attacks.

National syndicated satellite radio and MSNBC host Michael Smerconish and local Comcast News Anchor Lynn will also be special guests at the ceremony.

The Garden of Reflection is located at 1950 Woodside Road, Yardley. 

This is a free event; the public is welcome and is encouraged to arrive by 6:30 p.m. and may bring portable chairs. 

On that same day, 65 motorcycles from Warriors Watch, a veterans motorcycle group, will come to the Garden during their 9/11 Remembrance Ride.
