Bucks County Blooms for National Garden Month

Time to get out your trowel and start playing in the dirt because April is National Garden Month! Bucks County is blooming with activity at its many beautifully manicured gardens. Daffodils are in full bloom, making April the perfect time to view more than 500,000 of the yellow and white blossoms across Bucks County. Get out and explore Bucks County’s many gardens and natural areas:

  • The daffodils are blooming, and Byers’ Choice is introducing its brand new Daffodil Carolers® in celebration of Bulbs for Bucks, which aims to plant one million daffodil bulbs throughout Bucks County. Byers’ Choice will be hosting a daffodil flower exhibit on April 13 and 14, however guests to the emporium can enjoy the blooming flowers all month long in its award-winning gardens. Colorful annuals, fragrant blooms and sculptures by local and nationally renowned artists line the grounds around the factory all year round.
  • Take a leisurely stroll along the winding brick pathways of Peddler’s Village. The walkways of this 18th Century-inspired shopping village are lined with award-winning gardens that are sure to put a spring in your step.  Be sure to snap a picture and smell the tulips throughout your shopping excursion.
  • On the grounds of the former home of Pennsylvania founder, William Penn, Pennsbury Manor has a picture -perfect garden.  Throughout the year, it holds a “Garden Highlights” event where guests will learn about the work of Penn’s gardeners in the kitchen garden.
  • Discover more than 800 species of native plants when you explore the 134-acre woodland at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope. No matter what time of year you visit, there’s always something in bloom at the Preserve.
  • If you love the smell of lavender, Peace Valley Lavender Farm in Doylestown is the perfect place to get your fix. Stop back in the summer to take a walk through the lavender fields and pick your own bouquet!
  • Gardens have long been a place for reflection. Honor those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks at the Garden of Reflection in Yardley. Take a moment to pay respect for those affected by the tragedy as you walk through the gardens. The grounds features nine red maples representing victims from Lower Makefield, maple trees for the lives of Bucks County victims and redbud trees for the victims from Pennsylvania. The park also includes an oak garden, which is the first phase of a future arboretum.
  • Get carried away to a peaceful state in the butterfly garden at the Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol. The vibrant colors of this garden make for a beautiful backdrop for photographs. Peace Valley Nature Center in Doylestown also home to a butterfly garden, as well as wildflower gardens and an herb garden. Come see the hummingbirds at Churchville Nature Center. The hummingbird garden is one of many wildlife gardens at Churchville, which also has water gardens and a native woodland garden. 
  • The end of April doesn’t have to be the end of gardening season! Tour through the beautiful gardens of The Clement Doyle House in Doylestown, this year’s Bucks County Designer House. Home and garden tours are available daily from April 28 through May 26. “Tickle Your Senses” as the New Hope Historical Society takes guests on a tour of six private Bucks County gardens. The 20th annual tour garden tour will be held on Saturday, June 1. Historic Quakertown is home to many beautiful outdoor spaces, and you can tour them all at the annual Garden Affaires presented by Quakertown Alive. The June 30 tour takes guests to inspiring backyard gardens and expansive natural settings.
