Bucks County Buzzes with Fun, Festivals & Furry Friends this Spring

Winter is nearing an end, and spring is right around the corner. The temperatures are rising, the daffodils are blooming, and Bucks County is springing to life. If you’re still wondering what to do when spring arrives, look no further. We’ve got you covered with some great ideas to get out of the house this spring.

 Activities

• George Washington will be on hand when the Washington Crossing Historic Park celebrates the Grand Opening of its newly renovated Visitor Center on March 10. Be among the first to explore the brand new rooms and exhibits following a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

• Big Bird, Elmo, and all your favorite Sesame Street characters come to life at Sesame Place, the only theme park dedicated to the popular children’s show, Sesame Street. Save the date… “Opening Day” for the park’s 34th season is April 27! 

• Take a scenic drive through Bucks County as you visit some of the area’s best wineries on the third annual Spring Winery Tour. This two-part tour takes you to four wineries in the Northern part of the county on May 5, and five more wineries on May 19.

• Spring is a great time to experience the back roads of Bucks County. Discover the scenic countryside with a Covered Bridge Tour of the county’s remaining covered bridges. These historic structures have stood the test of time and are at some of the most beautiful locations in Bucks County.

Festivals

• Peddler’s Village offers a two exciting festivals this spring. The Civil War comes to life with two days of reenactments and demonstrations, April 13 and 14. If dessert is more to your liking, the annual Strawberry Festival, May 4 and 5, features strawberries baked in a pie or pastry, made into a jam or dipped in chocolate! YUM! Skilled craftsmen will be peddling their wares and entertainers will be performing on the streets of the 18th Century inspired shopping village.

• Sample beers from over 60 breweries from across the country at the 3rd annual Brewfest at Washington Crossing Historic Park May 11. All proceeds from the event go to the Friends of Washington Crossing Park. 

• This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual New Hope Pride Week & Parade. The annual celebration of the rich diversity of New Hope runs May 12 through May 19. The highlight of the event is the parade, which marches a mile-long flag down Main Street on Saturday.

Exhibits

• The James A. Michener Museum has two new exhibits arriving this spring. See how Easton artist Karl Stirner turns discarded steel into works of art at Transformations II, opening March 16. The museum also takes a look at American life With the Infinite Mirror, opening April 13. The exhibit features work from first generation and immigrant artists and explores issues including race, gender, religion, history, politics and family.  

• The Mercer Museum takes an in-depth look at Bucks County during the American Civil War with Turning Points, opening April 26. A Civil War 150 program, this exhibit brings to life the stories of local citizens and soldiers through portraits, diaries, audio recordings and more.

On Stage

• Sail away to a land of laughter as Bristol Riverside Theatre presents “The Pirates of Penzance” March 19 through April 28! Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera has been delighting audiences for more than 130 years with a tale of sentimental pirates, dim-witted youth and an eccentric Major General.

• If your family drives you crazy, you’re not alone! Steve Solomon’s “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m In Therapy” was inspired by his own crazy family and offers a hilarious take on how he was driven to therapy by those around him. Starring Peter Fogel, the show runs April 3 through April 21 at the Bucks County Playhouse.
