June Happenings in Bucks County

The unofficial start to summer is finally here and so are plenty of great events to kick off the season! With trips back in time through colonial reenactments, spectacular performances and beer-brewing demonstrations, there’s plenty to experience here in Bucks County this month! Find the perfect happening for you and head outdoors for some summer fun.

·May 31-June 1 – Come out to Sesame Place® for a Very Grouchy Birthday with Oscar the Grouch and all your favorite furry characters. Sing, dance and dine with all your Sesame Street friends and top your day off with a special “dirt dessert” that only a grouch could love.

·June 1

    o Hum along to your favorite theater tunes at Bucks County Choral Society’s “A Celebration of American Musical Theater, Past and Future!” Enjoy music from old favorites including Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein and more. The excellent performances from special guest artists are sure to have you tapping your toes.

    o Celebrate 50 great years with the Churchville Nature Center (CNC) during their 50th Anniversary Family Fun Day. Take a tour of the old farmhouse that used to serve as the visitor center and browse old photos and scrapbooks highlighting special moments in CNC’s past. Take a tour of the Butterfly House or the Lenape Village before taking time to admire the eclectic mix of spring wildflowers down in the Wildlife Gardens. With plenty of informational and fun presentations as well as games, arts and crafts and a campfire, there’s plenty to see and do outdoors at this all-day event!

    o Stop by historic Pennsbury Manor for an enthralling display of colonial craftwork. Historic Trades – Blacksmiths & Joyners provide a look into Pennsylvania’s past with a demonstration of how colonists turned simple pieces of wood into furniture without the use of nails or glue. Come out to witness the craftsmen using a lathe to turn legs for the joint stool and make sure to head over to the Blacksmith Shop afterwards to watch a demonstration of colonial metalwork.

    o Take a wagon ride with the whole family to the bursting fields of Shady Brook Farm during their Strawberry Fun Days. Load up your basket full of sweet strawberries before taking part in family-friendly fun complete with inflatable attractions, crafts and more.

    o Come out to Van Sant Airfield/The Bird of Paradise for an afternoon of live music and more during their Big Band Jazz & Sunset Balloon Launch event. An 18-piece jazz band led by Dennis Sigovich will take the stage at 1 p.m. with an exciting balloon launch to follow at sundown.

·June 5-8 – Stop by any Doylestown merchant to admire the work of local visual and performing artists during Doylestown Art Days, sponsored by Doylestown Business and Community Alliance. Each merchant will be displaying work from selected artists, turning the town into one large art gallery and performance venue. Grab an event map and hit the road to see all the beautiful art on display throughout the town’s main streets. Be sure to join in the celebration on Sunday, June 8 at The Doylestown Historical Society Park to honor the 50th Anniversary of “Operation 64” which has helped to bring the community together.

·June 7 – Calling all green thumbs! Take a self-guided tour of six beautiful Bucks County Gardens during the 21st Annual Garden Tour presented by the New Hope Historical Society-Parry Mansion Museum. Browse the beautiful landscaping of these diverse gardens and cap off the day with a special presentation from Landscape Architect Buck Walter where he will discuss plants that thrive in this area and how they fit into garden design history.

·June 7-8 – Bring out your creative side at Peddler’s Village during their Fine Art & Contemporary Craft Show. This outdoor exhibition features a variety of original work including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and more, all from local and regional artists.

·Through June 8 – June is your last chance to come out for a night of scary-good fun during a performance of Little Shop of Horrors at Bristol Riverside Theatre. Sing along to your favorite tunes from this cult classic and watch the story unfold between a nerdy flower shop worker, the girl he loves and the plant that wants to eat them both!

·June 14 – “Tap” into history at the Second Annual Brews & Bites happening at Pennsbury Manor. Walk along the scenic 43-acre grounds of William Penn’s former home, enjoy the gardens full of ripening hops and take in a demonstration of 17th-century beer brewing. Craft beer from local and regional brewers will be available for tastings. Spend a relaxing day beside the Delaware River and experience one of America’s oldest crafts.
 

·June 14 – Enjoy a tasting of delicious craft beers from local breweries during the annual New Hope Beer Festival. Sample seasonal beers from around the region and enjoy the musical entertainment included with admission.

·June 19-July 13 – Watch the plot thickening right before your eyes at suspenseful thriller “Deathtrap” beginning this month at the Bucks County Playhouse. This self-referenced “play within a play” will have audience members on the edge of their seats throughout its duration. Don’t miss the chance to see Broadway’s longest running comedy-thriller right here in Bucks County.

·June 20-22 – Make history at the inaugural New Hope Liberty Festival hosted by the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce and the Coryell’s Ferry Militia. This three-day Revolutionary War era reenactment of General Washington's 1778 encampment and Delaware River crossing includes live artillery cannon firing and rifle demonstrations, a veterans and military parade, colonial period crafts and a treasure hunt for children, a 5K run, Patriots' Ball and much more.

·Through August 24 – Get your kicks at the Route 66 exhibit currently housed at the Mercer Museum. This special exhibit takes visitors on a historical tour of the nation’s most famous highway through graphic displays, props, artifacts and even an interactive drive-in theater. Don’t miss the chance to see the display of a 1969 Mercedes 600 once owned by legend Elvis Presley himself!

·Through August 31 – As summer rushes in, it brings with it many beautiful flowers and fruits. Take a tour of Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve and see all that nature has to offer this season during one of their Guided Wildflower Walks. Witness and learn about plant and animal interactions while taking an enjoyable, scenic hike along the nature trails of the Preserve.
