March Happenings in Bucks County

It may still feel like winter, but spring is right around the corner and Bucks County is sure to cure your cabin fever. Whether you enjoy world-class art, fine food and drink or a fun time with the family, Bucks County is the place to be this month.

·         March 1-June 1 – Discover the works of Bucks County designer-craftsman Paul Evans at the James A. Michener Art Museum. Best known for his uniquely-sculptured metal furniture, the Newtown native was one of the most prolific craftsmen of the 20th century. Opening March 1, Paul Evans: Crossing Boundaries and Crafting Modernism is the first comprehensive retrospective on Evans’ career.

·         March 2-7 – Reserve your place at one of Bucks County’s best restaurants during the first-ever Lahaska Restaurant Week. Two restaurants inside Peddler’s Village, Earl's Bucks County and Buttonwood Grill, and three from the surrounding area, Caleb's American Kitchen, Porterhouse Restaurant & Pub, Villaggio Italian Restaurant, are coming together to offer special prix fixe dinner menus for $29.99 per person during Restaurant Week.

·         March 8 – Join the Newtown Historic Association for the 12th Annual Tavern Night at the Half Moon Inn for an evening of colonial fun. Sample 18th century-style ale, dance to the period-style music and enjoy a traditional American dinner.

·         March 8-9 – It’s OK to play with your food! The area’s most talented pastry artists take center stage at the annual Cupcake Decorating Contest and Display at Peddler’s Village. Categories for the contest include traditional, baker’s choice and Peddler’s Village themed cupcakes.

·         March 9Pennsbury Manor, the reconstructed home of William Penn, kicks off its 75th anniversary year with the annual Charter Day celebration. The original 1681 Charter of Pennsylvania will be on display at the Manor for this free event, the first time the Charter has left Harrisburg since the 1960s.

·         March 14-17 - The Annual Newtown Irish Festival is back this year, and bigger and better than ever! Presented by the Green Parrot Restaurant and Pub, the weekend-long festival will feature plenty of Irish food, drinks and music both within the pub and in an event tent next door.

·         March 15-16 – When one day of celebration just isn’t enough, come to Crossing Vineyards and Winery for two days of fun at their St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Celebration. Who needs green beer when you can enjoy red and white wine? Delight in wine tastings all weekend and live Irish music on Saturday from The Boys of County Bucks.

·         March 16-21 – Visit both sides of the Delaware River between March 16 and 21 to sample the delicious fare that New Hope and Lambertville have to offer during the fifth annual New Hope & Lambertville Restaurant Week. Choose one or two fine dining options: a four-course $29.95 prix fixe feast, or a wallet-friendly $19.95 prix fixe meal. Whatever you choose, these sister cities are offering tasty dishes that are sure to please.

·         March 18-April 13 – Come to the Bristol Riverside Theatre to watch Laughter on the 23rd Floor, a side-splitting comedy based on writer Neil Simon’s experience working for the weekly variety show. Enjoy the hilarious jokes and banter that goes on between the “cast” and the “writers” and get an inside glimpse at the chaos that goes on backstage of a television production.

·         March 22 – Put on your best 1920s dress for the annual Bucks County Ball. Hosted by the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce, this year’s theme is the Great Gatsby. Enjoy the company of local business professionals and residents for an evening of elegance, dancing and fun.

·         March 22-24 – Put on your favorite pair of PJs and head to Sesame Place for Big Bird’s Pajama Party! Join your Sesame Street friends for an afternoon of food and fun with a buffet lunch and lots of singing and dancing.

·         Through April 6 – Stitch together a trip to Peddler's Village for the annual Quilt Competition and Display. Admire the artistic creativity and quality of an array of handmade quilts that will be on display in the Village Gazebo.
