3rd Annual Danny Mac 5k and Family Fun Walk

Fallen Bensalem EMS Paramedic Danny McIntosh honored by the community he served and loved.

Bensalem honored one of their own today at the 3rd Annual Danny Mac 5k and Family Fun Walk which began at the Bensalem Central Park Pavilion.  The event is a fundraiser for the Danny Mac Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Danny McIntosh, or "Danny Mac", was a 13 year veteran paramedic with the Bensalem Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when he died in the line of duty from a massive heart attack on March 7, 2010 after pursuing a mentally unstable person who fled while receiving medical treatment. McIntosh is survived by his wife Bethann and two children. Danny Mac was dedicated to serving his community and he died doing what he loved.  For more about the life and service of Danny Mac go to dannymac.org

The event was attended by over 150 runners and walkers of all ages.  Also in attendance was Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, who gave the crowd an update on a bill he introduced to support fallen volunteer emergency medical personnel.

Rep. Fitzpatrick remarked that he has received bipartisan support for the bill (H.R 1668 Danny McIntosh Emergency Medical Service Providers Protection Act) which would extend federal Public Safety Officers' Benefits to volunteer paramedics.  Rep. Fitzpatrick promised the attendees by saying, "I am not going to rest until the Danny Mac bill is the law of the United States."

The overall 5k race winners were Kyle Brockett for the men and Ashleen Timoney for the women.
