Weekly Weather: Fall Colors To Dominate A Nice Week

If you liked most of last week's weather, you'll love the majority of this week!

Last week was a nice prelude to Indian Summer ― temperatures topped 70 on three occasions in the Philadelphia-area and almost topped 70 on a fourth day. Despite the heavy rain in spots on Friday, the week as a whole was rather nice and the weekend was even nicer.

Get ready for a still nicer run of weather this week.

Temperatures will start in the 60s on Monday before warming above 70 through at least Friday and probably into Saturday. High pressure will hold in place over the Carolinas for much of the week, bringing a mild west and west-southeast wind that will push our high temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday into the upper half of the 70s. It would not shock us if a few low 80s occurred near the region.  While not a record, it is warm for the latter half of October. The average high at this time of the year is in the mid 60s.

Fall color is approaching its peak in the region. It should make for a beautiful week of viewing fall foliage from your office window, your home, the commute to and from work, or if you can take a nice scenic drive around the suburbs this week. With the very nice weather in place over the next few days, we should be able to snap some pretty awesome fall color photography. We are running about a week ahead of last year's pace on fall color transition.

The bad news is that these mild temperatures are not going to last. Reality will check back in next week with a cold front that will cross the region on Saturday night into Sunday. Showers, at minimum are likely but computer modeling is hinting that a steadier rain is possible.  We'll keep an eye on the transition as there could be some tropical enhancement of moisture into whatever comes through with the front.  Colder air will dominate next week's weather, with highs probably 20 degrees colder than they will be on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
